  • Switching Constant / Switch Live for aftermarket HU....

    Hi guys and girls,

Ive been trying to follow the destructions on Evilution website on changing the constant and switch live over to allow an aftermarket HU to remember the settings.

However, ive removed the retaining clip from the factory fitted block connection, yet cant seem to loose the wires from the clip, ive tried poking a paper clip as instructed into the front but to no avail.

    Can anyone shed some light?

They are invariably held in with a barb (backwards pointing 'hook')

you need to push the barb inwards before starting to pull the cable/pin out, if you start pulling before pushing the barb to the inside you will have real trouble releasing it

To help you visualise what you're dealing with, take a look at them in this piccy of similar type of connector:

i found the best tool for me was a set of watch makers screwdrivers ad using the smallest 1.2mm it would fit in the slot where the "single barb" as per the post above shows. You can then "squash" the barb flush withthe rest of the pin before attempting to pull it out by the wire.
The slot is approached from the side opposite the wire comming out the back.

Are you using an ISO converter for your specific head unit?

Well, unless you are fitting the original equipment units, the SMART ISO wiring is NON-STANDARD (It's MB Standard!!!)
That's why you are having to swap the yellow and the red!

Using a specific headunit to SMART ISO adapter ought to get round that problem. Atleast if you do have to alter something it's not going to damage the cars wirring and you can replace an adapter quite easily if it all goes pear shaped....!

Think im I might just get a better head unit with the smaller iso fitting in the back and ill change the wiring on the iso lead instead, tried again with the wires this morning and still no luck!
