I have this new pioneer unit fitted in my gb-10 and when i select reverse gear the screen goes blank as though it is in a reverse camera mode. I wondered if any one knows if the wiring was in place at the rear for a camera? It just seems unusual to fit a reverse feed to the stereo and not put the leads in place.

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
I have this stereo - the other-half tells me the instruction manual says the wiring loom is not there and on seeing the price of the Pioneer ND-BC2 or ND-BC20PA reverse camera's I don't think its a worthwhile addition to a Smart - you would be looking at the best part of £300! It would be interesting to see if you could connect a cheap camera or maybe a wireless camera using the bluetooth connectivity. We have a rear view camera in the Landrover, its brilliant for towing trailers and caravans, but its not a mod I'm rushing to make on the Smart.Last edited by ritzy roadster; 01-01-11, 08:46 PM.

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
Thanks for that I just wondered. I fit alot of reversing cameras as part of my job. The company i deal with for the cameras have just bought out a set of reversing sensors with a built in camera, so i am going to try and adapt a set of them to fit this unit.

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
Hi, I have an Urbanstyle with the same head-unit - (until it got stolen!) , the unit looks for a reverse camera when reverse is selected as i believe it is connected to the car's CAN BUS system.
I dont think there is any wiring present in the car for this - however you can turn this off in the headunit's menu so that when you select reverse the screen wont go blank!

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
I doubt it is connected to the CAN bus system.Ive never connected either of my Pioneers to it.
There are 4 wired inputs into the back of a standard Pioneer HU
Mute signal
Park (handbrake) signal
Reverse gear signal
System Remote signal
it is possible the reverse and/or handbrake signal have been wired in so as MustangSally says the headunit is attempting to show the reverse camera image.
The bluetooth option on my HU is solely geared towards displaying my phones address book so I strongly suspect a bluetooth camera is a non starter.
When I find the manual I will check if it is viable - I could well be wrong

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
seems like the unit is all wired in, hook up the rca signal from the camera and you're all set!
as said by davros, you wouldn't be able to get a signal over bluetooth...could try one of those wireless spy cameras though
they would work
and the fact it's all 12v systems it's got potential
but you're better off using a wired camera and just running the wire for the cam

Re: pioneer avic-f910bt
Hi I don't know about the head unit but I have had several like it in the past on motorhomes basically they pick up a + signal from reverse gears and the head unit switches the display to av1 or 2 all you have to do is get a camera from ebay £20 put the negative and positive to the reversing light contacts and run av cable to the head unit and bingo job done. On a roadster no more than an hours work.
Good luck
