Speaker upgrade 451 - Anyone?

Hi All

Can you tell me if the speaker size in the 451 is the same as in the 450? I really like my avic-f910bt head-unit but I'm growing tired of my cardboard cut-out crappy smart speakers. Are they 13cm? It's my Birthday next month and I'm thinking about investing in a better set.

I had a price-up of the system of the speaker and sub offered in the Ice edition anyone had a listen to that set-up?

I know that they are not rated but anyone ever had any decent coaxials? Focal do some slimline speakers, pricey but I don't mind investing I'm looking for clarity and depth of sound rather than volume. We fitted infinity speakers and tweeters in the roadie but it was such a faff and required cutting holes to get a nice finish, hence why I'm reluctantly interesting in co-ax's.

No worries. I fitted Infinity because they have very high sensitivity so you get better quality, louder sound from less input.

Okay, well I'm still on the trail of finding a half-decent set of coaxials for my 451 door speakers. As explained previously I'm trying to avoid components because I really don't want the hassle of cutting holes in a car I will probably hand back to Smart.

I've used the Excellent Evilution site as a guide to what speakers would fit, therefore I've limited my search to 6.5 inches diameter and max mounting depth 60mm. Kane you deserve a Knighthood for services to Smart owners.

On occasion I've gone slightly over the 60mm depth, this is because I have spotted the speakers fitted to Smarts on US forums (e.g. JL's) and I've assumed that it is technically possible to fit a speaker of the same depth as the JL's fitted to American cars.

Observation - 1) Its a bloody minefield out there and most online shops and manufacturers are very poor at providing practical information on fitting (metric and imperial intermixed), 2) The American market seems to be much better catered for, supply on UK sites for new speaker models seems pretty poor from my brief investigation

Caveat - 1)This is an initial trawl through the net. Where possible I have double-checked mounting depth, but I cannot guarantee accuracy - this is a rough guide, 2) I have overlooked Infinities - not because I don't rate them, we have a set in the Roadie - I'm fickle and I fancied a change, 3) prices vary widely and these do not represent best value

Anyone had any experience with the speakers I've identified so far?

granted coax's are a compromise, anyway if you knew me you'd know that there isn't much distance between my ears and my legs.

In an ideal world I'd go for the c5's too but bit too rich for me at the mo. Can't see the Rockford Fosgate model you picked out in the UK tinterweb shops. Also, found some Polks which would fit the bill http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/sr/index.php?s=sr6500
