Re: iPhone as a head unit
Headunit with ipod and Bluetooth @ £200-300
Speakers: @ £100-£200
Sub + Amp @ £150 e.g. Vibe Liteair 12
Wiring: £50
Installation: DIY (FREE)
Audison Bit One: £600ish
I guess it depends on what you need to get, in order to have a complete working unit

Re: iPhone as a head unit
the bit one is an awesome source, but you're still limited to using the device to control your music
as Khalifa said, get a headunit with ipod connectivity...might want to look at a nice touch screen double din headunit to sit in there
as for the speakers, i'd highly recommend getting a 4 channel amplifier and using 2 of the channels to run the speakers, while using the spare channels for a little subwoofer (maybe a 8 or 10...depending on your requirements)
truthfully, you do not want to use the built in ipod's DAC (digital to audio converter), so theoretically, the easiest route would be for you to choose a ipod compatible headunit
however if you're after just an ipod, then something like the onkio nd-1 or something like this
iPad vehicle installation dash kits and Soundman merch. ipad car stereo. hot to install an ipad in your car. ipad car installation.
would be useful as you're bypassing the ipod's dac in favour of a much more efficient and simply better one.
if you need a hand with the fitting, then feel free to give me a shout
