  • Using an ipod (or similar) wth the grundig headunit

    Hi,
I'd like you envisage having to explain to your grandma how she would listen to music in her car through an ipod instead of CD's. Got it? Ok, now can some explain how I use an ipod in Mr P (I really am that obtuse when it comes to audio )

    Thankyou!

Oh, and if someone can tell me how the hell I get music from the internet on to said ipod, that'd be even better

Jack plug from ipod to head unit is the easy way if it's got one. Full connection is better but you have to have the right equipment.
Music from the internet has to be in your itunes library, then to your ipod.
Best place I've found for all things i is this http://www.ilounge.com/

    Hope that helps.

      Firstly buy one of these:

It comes with fitting instructions but is basically very easy - release the radio from the dash, connect the wire to the rear, and route the other end of the wire somewhere accessible (I put it in the drawer under the radio).

Press the CC button twice to put the grundig radio into AUX mode (you will probably see NO COMMUNI on the display if you have the cassette version). Attach the ipod to the plug, press play on the ipod and sit back and enjoy the sounds in your car!

It will also charge your ipod at the same time - something a standard jack connector won't do, and the sound quality tends to be better when you connect via the dock port rather than the earphone socket.

are you keeping your current stereo or do you fancy an upgrade?

reason being, upgrading your stereo will open up a whole load more features that the oem stereo just can't do

e.g. bluetooth handsfree, and allowing you to control your ipod from the radio rather than the device and you'll benefit from better sound quality rather than using a jack connector or even the adaptor that 137699 has stated.

that's on the assumption you go for a stereo that has ipod compatibility...but most do now a days

I'm not going to teach the OP to suck eggs here as she's been around here long enough to have formed her own opinions, but *most* aftermarket headunits look a bit pants in the 450 due to the curve of the dashboard fascia, and with the sound-chip installed the Grundig unit is surprisingly capeable sound-wise.

I swapped out the Grunding in my Roadster for a £600 sony unit (I needed bluetooth connectivity) and I can honestly say the sound quality is pretty much the same. The Grundig sounded pretty damn good with a decent set of speakers and a small sub fitted to it.

I only really recommend dumping the Grundig if you need features such as:
          - bluetooth
          - DAB
          - DVD
          - Sat Nav etc.

I once tried explaining an IPod to an elderly grandma type lady - all I can say is good luck....

One hint - install some itunes that she likes and you might just extend her attention span long enough for her to grasp the concept

( I suspect i was on a loser with Pendulum.....)

Totally agree, I'll never fit aftermarket as it just looks gash, and I've no need for anything better given that my hearing is damaged anywho.

              She? You mean me

Thanks for the replies, I think I understand it now. I'll miss using the cd changer, but I'm going to have to get with the program as I can't get CD's anymore, and they just get scratched in the CD holder anyway. :frown:

smart did a proper ipod dock for the original ipod. You could probably fit that with a cd head unit and get the best of both worlds.

Get an iTrip, it converts your ipod into a radio transmitter & uses your radio settings to play. You can keep your CD changer too then

You install iTunes on your computer

You put a cd into your computer

iTunes automatically asks if you want to add that cd to your library

                    Wait about 5mins till complete.

                    Press "download album art"

Repeat for as many CDs as you want.

                    Connect iPod to computer.

                    Press synchronise.

Music is now on iPod and all organised by album.

Either connect to radio with cable (best quality and cheapest option)

Or buy radio sender that connects to iPod and sends music to a frequency you select and tune the radio to that. This does get interference as you travel and new radio stations pop up.

Best solution is a parrot full integrated hands free kit with iPod connectivity (£200 fitted @ halfords)
