Sound upgrade for ForTwo 450

I have a ForTwo 450 smart but want to upgrade to the better sound system. My local indendant smart dealer told me that the sound upgrade is no longer being sold by Smart for the 450 and that they have always had problems with the electrics after they have done the sound upgrade, eg central locking, immobiliser etc. Can anybody recommend a dealer (independant Smart dealer NOT Smart UK) that can supply and fit this? Im in the Surrey area

Do you have a left hand drive or a right hand drive car ?
The bass bins are different for left and right hand drives

I will check which ones I have in stock

We are based in Surrey and do mobile work as well

I got the bins from my local Merc dealer not more than 3 months ago. They didn't have problem supplying.

I watched for ages on eBay, and contacted a couple of specialist breakers (who actually wanted twice what they cost new!!)

I did the fitting myself using the guides on FQ101 and Evilution.

Everything works fine. No electrics problems.

2 or 3 hours work if you've not taken the dash off before.

Very pleased I did it, I can now actually hear what's coming through the speakers!

Yep agree they are talking balls, we fitted a set for a customer last week no problems getting hold of them & never had any electrics issues?! lol

PITA job as it's dash out but fiddly rather than difficult!

If you can get them new, try ebay.de.

I got a whole set (Bass bins, Tweeters, Wiring and even the sound upgrade chip) for less than 70€. They weren't new but they appeared so.

I'm no mechanic and I'm not even very good at DIY, but I fitted the sound pack on our last fortwo in about 2-3 hours following the FQ or Evilution guide (can't remember which). It was really easy & quite enjoyable. There's no way it will mess up the electrics unless you really do something ridiculous - there's no cutting of wires or anything involved. The sound quality was so much better on completion.

Update on the sound upgrade....i contacted my Smart people again to clarify and they said it is not a problem, seems the new boy that was working there wasnt aware that they could do the upgrade. However he did say that he will have to try to get the parts from Smart Gatwick. Only hope they have them in stock.

I'd recommend contacting John Porter (aka smartypartfast) - he works at Smart of Hertford and will be able to advise whether it's possible to obtain the sound pack parts.
They do come up from time to time on ebay 2nd hand, or you could try finding a car being broken with the kit on it...

How much are they charging to fit it? As it's really not that difficult to do yuorself...

Im waiting for my independant dealer to get back to me with a figure, i remember the last time they quoted i think it was £250 or £350 parts & labour to fit. Im too ham fisted and impatient to do it myself unfortunately, i can just see everything going messy!

Plenty of Indies around London, I wouldn't pay merc to do it!

Rhd, i always use indies btw. I always get a better service, a bit more personal too
