  • fitting an active sub

Like a pratt, I managed to cut through the wires on my active sub ( seat runner!) and have still to refit it but will be doing so quite soon. What I am looking to find out from anyone on here whoknows more than me ( probably everyone ) is whether it is possible to source replacement wiring and how the heck to put it all together.
Also, I have seen a pic of a really nice installation on a Dutch roadster which shows a smaller extra speaker in the door kick plate area but I have not been able to find anything smaller than 5.25 (apart from tweeters of course). I have a spare set of door cards so I have plenty of time to work it all out but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction - ATM I have Alpine components.

    what sub do you have?

you might want to ditch the alpine components in favour of a 3 way component set instead? iirc the door speakers in the roadster are 5.25" so (for example) a hertz energy 3 way consists of a 1" tweeter, a 3" mid and a 6.5" woofer.

slap the tweeter on the a pillar, the 3" mid in the oem factory location(with a spacer/adaptor) and the 6.5 in the kick. if you can angle the kick for example, you can achieve a slightly better sound stage too. don't forget to slap a load of sound deadening material too!

OR, it might be easier to just keep the alpine components and get a 6" or 8" subwoofer to handle the midbass a little better.

      What sub is it?

The wiring side of its easy. Could do it in Snipe car park if you bring some wire (weather permitting)

Sure The Snipe wont mind as we have done worse in there car park

        Miami,

Why not repair the original wiring loom that is damaged? It would not be difficult, I regularly make cabling repairs on all sorts of electrical equipment for people, various items and reasons, USB leads, phone chargers etc normally due to kids/pets chewing and pulling, even done a compact sub inc wired remote lead due to poor heathen removal only last month. Pm me if I can be of assistance.

        Steve.
