  • Very very strange issue with the stereo...

    Hey guys...
I've been trying to fix a problem I found on my stereo:
On the AUX output I can hear a "ticking" sound (when I turn the volume up to max).
    I tried the following:
    A. Changed the stereo to a new one, the same type, fresh from a box.
    B. Changed the RCAs, connected the stereo (both of them, old and new) straight to the amp.
    C. Changed the AUX cable (earphones plug on both ends) to a really expensive one.
    D. Changed and plugged 2 (two) other iPhones rather than my one.
Nothing helped... the "ticking" sound stays...
The only thing that hasn't been changed is the amp itself, but I believe there's nothing to do with it -
Because on every other output option (radio, usb, etc) - there's NO "ticking" sounds whatsoever.
I've been asking around with some "sound experts" over here, and they were stunned... never seen this before.
I guessed it's a good idea to post it up on the forum, and maybe some friends over here would give me some thoughts.
    I'll appreciate everything, LOL.

Surely its electrical noise...... Aux input wire too close to other wires carrying signals etc.

I really wouldn't worry about it

TBH if you can only hear it when you turn it up to "MAX" volume, then it's really not worth worrying about.

problemchild, it started since last week...
I never ever had this problem. same cable.

137699, when I said "MAX" I ment from level 17-18 to 35 (the MAX level).
Hearing less than 17-18 is possible, but with the roof open it's useless

And it ONLY happens on aux?? On 2 different head units? And only just started?

Is the noise there with no aux connected?

Is the noise there engine off and engine on?

                earthing issue.

as said before, being at max, dont worry about it.

to be honest, you shouldn't have your stereo up more than 3/4 of it's max output. any louder than that and you risk distortion which kills your speakers. if at 3/4 it is still too quiet for your enjoyment, get yourself an amplifier, and a good one at that that has higher output than your current one.

what size wire are you using for your power and ground?

I was thinking earthing and wrote a few bits about that until i realised he said it has only just happened and onky happened on aux.

I agree with you though and anything too much over 50% and I would look at a simple amp.

Loved your setup matey in the BRAB at s2smarts - great sound

                    O.K then...
Engine ON + NO CABLE = Ticking sound
Engine ON + Cable INSERTED = Ticking sound
Engine OFF + NO CABLE = NO Ticking sound
Engine OFF + Cable INSERTED = NO Ticking sound

And Neil, I'm sure you're right mate...
It's not that I'm listening when the volume is at MAX,
I was just mentioning that for this issue I'm having

                      Check your engine earth leads

                          that's that sorted!

if you want super loud and super clean, get yourself a set of morel mids! I'd imagine being from Israel that they're a damn sight cheaper than over here in the UK! (The I win the lottery I order me a set of Morel Elate 3 ways! )

On a sound forum, people are telling me that because the electrical disturbances comes only when the motor's running, I should check:
The thickness of cables & an improper minus (-) on the amplifier... to check that the connections are fastened... anyways, I'll check this.

that will be your earth(-ve) leads.

Minimum 4 gauge on the amplifier regardless of specification and upgrade the battery earth lead too. (run an additional lead in parallel to the factory lead)

If you can get your hands on some 0 gauge wiring or even welding cable, the better as it is really thick!

If you want, upgrade the engine earths too.
