  • Fitted new double din head unit

After slicing my finger open with a tiny screwdriver moving pins in the ISO cable, it's fitted

A new double din JVC KW-R400

I have to say massive improvement even with the working stock sound upgrade from smart
Was surprised the sub still worked :s weird in my eyes

Just on to upgrading door speakers and tweeters soon

Must say though as a bargain double din goes very good

        as above...pics!

make sure you get a few sheets of sound deadening material when you swap out the speakers! It'll make them sound so much better!

This is link will take some pics tomorrow hopefully http://www.wavetech.co.nz/JVC-KW-R400.html

          Cost me £101
          Fitted to a 451 84passion

Was sick of the smart radio skipping numerous songs cos it felt like it

Next stage is door speaker upgrades as I said earlier in the post will also be replacing the factory sub as its c**p

Sound deadening is a must as the door rattle enough already

In my old 71hp 451 I had a 10inch enclosure which was brilliant but in the boot and it was too much (bass going through my back when driving= feels sick and two added speaker in boxes in the boot too

So I'm thinking of maybe mounting a pair of 6 inch speakers in the rear interior pillars
Anybody done this other than the guy on YouTube???

            downsize from a 10 to an 8!

as for rear speakers, at the ICE shop I used to work at, they routed to the rear hatch compartment and installed 6x9 in a few 451's

could go down the route of getting a 3 or 4 channel amplifier and just amplifying the front speakers and adding a small 8 in a sealed box behind a seat?

Re: Fitted new double din head unit

only thing is i dont wanna comprimise on space in the boot and dont like what the rear hatch speakers look like did that in my 2000 450 i had and just looked out of place

theres a guy that mounted some 6.5s in the rear pillars behind seat belt reels looks really good think may do that, plus the speakers are right behind your ears

thinkin of moving tweeters too as dont like all the sound coming off the front windscreen,

think may just have a little weekend of diy on my hands this weekend

any suggestions on the best brand of speakers??

Re: Fitted new double din head unit

I'd disconnect the tweeters under the dash and mount them on top of the dash. Aim both for the middle of the car and it'l sound golden!

as for brands, Hertz, Audison, Focal have my vote for really good quality/all round performance. I've got a pair of hertz hi.energy 6.5 components in mine and they sound so good! With a lot of songs, there isn't even a need for a sub due to the way they handle the lows!

as for the sub, you can stick a slim box at the back of the seat so it doesn't take up any boot space!

Re: Fitted new double din head unit

i think ill scrap the sub for now and just upgrade speakers tweeters and install 2 extra speakers in rear as mentioned earlier then see if theres a need for a sub as i think id rather amp the speakers and then see
cheers for help on brands and stuff

tweeters def good idea though lifting them from under the dash
