  • Speaker upgrade pods.

    I got some used speaker pods that go under the dash, I have some better speakers for them as I have heard the standard ones are c**p.
    My question is; is it worth putting some of the microfibre duvet type filling in the boxes before I fit them, the reason is; this is what is used in bass boxes to increase the bass output and stop the boom effect of an empty box. Has anybody done this already? if so was the effect better? I have only tried it with sealed air boxes and does give a better quality of bass but I have not tried it with ported boxes.

    same effect will occur with ported boxes too.

    will 'fool' the driver into playing in a larger enclosure than is actually used.

    as for the actual result, well that would be up to you as to what sounds best, though I've always used the wadding in my boxes.

      Hi, thanks for the reply, I think I will use wadding as that is what I normally do, I just was not sure about ported plastic enclosures. I dont need big bass from these speakers as I have just took delivery of one of these, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marquant-MAC.../dp/B007PY4KB4
      Cant wait to try it out.

          Re: Speaker upgrade pods.

          Ok, so done some more on the ice in the car, I have taken the ripspeed dvd 7" pop out screen head unit out as I prefer my sony xr-c8100r with 10 disc changer, its an oldie but a goldie.

          I have run the cables for the active bass unit and rear speakers and changer under the carpets, fitted 3 way 160mm speakers in the tailgate, the changer has gone under the drivers seat and the bass unit fits a treat slap bang in the middle of the boot facing front to back, it seems to sound better in this position with the port facing forward and still leaves room either side for stuff.

          Initial results are good, very good, though I am still playing and setting up with different styles of music, Its very impressive for its size, not quite as good as the 2 12" subs I had in my mini van but not bad at all. I would say that having a seperate sub control on the head unit makes it more controllable but i am still fiddling with settings and levels.

          Next job is to fit the front speaker pods and 3 way speakers in the front, this will have to wait as the horn has given up the ghost.

          More to follow;

            Ok, now i have had a few days of driving and listening to this active sub and fiddling with levels, gain and low pass filter, I can say that for an 8" sub £80 delivered IT KICKS ASS!

            I am very impressed with the quality of bass and grunt it has. I have a very wide range in music tastes from 70's, 80's to the latest trance, dance and drum 'n' bass but not one D or faffy micheal bubble or whatever his name is.

            The best bass I got out of it was from an old bass test cd I have which basically shakes the mirrors. The only gripe I have (not really a gripe) is with the port facing forward towards the gear lever it gives a cold puff of air whenever bass is pumping which results in a cold hand.

            One more thing, the bass box comes with all wiring and fuse to fit straight in, there is nothing else to buy.
