  • 450 speaker relplacement

After being under the dash not so long ago i saw the underside of the standard (rubbish) speakers, i'm aware of the speaker bin upgrade, but is it possible to just put a different set of speakers in place of the standard ones?

And can anyone advise of the size?

    Thanks

Hi, they are 100mm speakes and can be upgraded easily, there is info on Eviloution. Sound bins mean the depth of speaker you can use is limited (I can't remember what limit is). It is also possible to retofit tweeters. If you have the Smart CD player it is ready for them when activated, the tape player needs a sound chip upgrade.
    Cheers!

Question is, if you're going to the effort of removing the dash to swap the speakers, why wouldn't you just fit the bass bins anyway? They sound phoenomenal in comparison to the standard speakers.

The bass bins do sound phoenomenal in comparison to the budget stock set up, but so do the cheapest nastiest Halford speakers, lol.

            Re: 450 speaker relplacement

Ive recently replaced the standard speakers in my car with a set of clarion 13cm speakers (10cm internal) They are 3 way speakers. and they fitted fine with no problems I just drilled holes into the underside of the dash where the air passes through to fit the 4 holes because the original 3 holes dont fit anything else that Ive seen There was a slight protruding area of the speakers on top but they fitted just fine.

As for bigger speakers you could, but the dash holes wouldnt allow the sound out very well and would possibly vibrate the dash resulting in poor sound. Also on one of the speaker mounting points there isnt much room to fit a bigger speaker. As it would drop set itself off the bottom of the dash and again cause a problem with the sound.

The only real way of getting better speakers is to either fit the bass bins or to make your own and fit them into that. Some people have fitted speakers into where the pockets are on the doors and Ive also seen speakers mounted into the rear panel (boot) but both of these options require modifications to the original panels of the car and wiring throughout the car. I would possibly consider this but at the moment Im quite happy with the uprated off the shelf speakers at the moment. Money dictates etc...

I fitted 6.5inch mids in dash bins, not a straight fit and put tweeters on the dash.

Sound is so much better than the standard rubbish
