  • Brabus DRL's broken - LED replacements?

    451_Daylight_Running_Lamps.jpg

So, I've got these DRL's fitted on my Smart fortwo GB10 - they looked pretty at the time but nearly three years on and they hold condensation and some of the LED bulbs have gone on one side. I'm looking for some advice on how to sort them, is it possible to buy replacement bulbs and fit them at home or is it going to be a very expensive trip to Smart?!

    Can anyone offer any ideas?

    Thanks

you cant replace the LED's, its a full light unit. cant see it being that hard to replace it. its a case of removing the front unclipping the old unit and fitting the new one

Hmmm, thought it would be something like that, sounds like it's going to be pricey. SPD have the full DRL unit on their website for around £570 so goodness knows how much Smart will charge to replace a strip of lights. Lalli - do you think the part code will be printed somewhere on the light strips? Wonder if they are generic and if I can source them myself. Ta

And, yes PC76 bloody poor design.

JJ in the pre-facelift XF they had them in the chrome blades in the front bumper and they were pants! they switched off when you put your side lights on which is how they are ment to work but there was a service action depending on chassis number they had certain work carried out on them. in the bulletin they had the quote *if it had DRL's fitted then you must replace them as a pair... so we would go to parts and they told us that jaguar had no stock of them and that they were back ordered to god only knew. on the facelift XF and XK they are in the light units themselves, so its a case of removing the front bumper and renewing the light assembly.

ritzy, your crapping yourself BEFORE you have gone to smart/mercedes for the price of the lamp. SPD's kit, iv herd also has problems with water ingress. there is a possibility that the part number will be stamped on the unit but if you give them the wrong number then your stuck with it. go to mercedes and tell them what you want, and if they get it wrong its down to them to sort it out.

the motor industry is full of poorly designed ideas, some are more visible than others

            That's a joke!

So you can't replace individual bulbs?

That's like having to replace the entire forfour rear brake light unit just because one bulb has gone

that is the case with the Bentley Continental GT! the high level brake light is PART OF the rear screen so if that goes its a new rear screen
