  • Looking for help regarding wiring

I am too lazy and do not have enough confidence to do a proper wiring job from the existing car wires.

So I need something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3804969982...84.m1423.l2649

Does anyone know where to get one within the UK?

I am also guessing they are not so difficult to make if I can get hold of the right parts.

It is so I can make my own Ambient Lighting since I wasn't allowed it as an option on the Edition 21.

Any help / advice / other methods much appreciated.

Well you could just buy that one and import it?
But personally I'd rather pay the £4 or whatever it costs & get a propper fuseholder for the SAM unit. Requires no special skills to use whatsoever.

Yeah, I am close to buying it and paying the postage to get it here. Turns out he does a kit with the LED's as well so I might just go for the whole lot.

What will that fuse holder do and what is a SAM unit?

A fuse holder will hold the fuse ( ) and the SAM unit (for the purpose of this conversation) is the fuse box under the dash.... there are spare powered slots for accessories - hence you can add yout own fuse holder in there

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

So, from what I can tell (I've had a look at Evilution website, pretty good!) the fuse box (or SAM unit) has a few spare slots which I can tap power from...

Any chance you could get me a link to a fuse holder which would be suitable for this application? I have had a look myself but there are lots of different ones.

The lighting needs 5 amps apparently, I guess this makes a difference.

            ebay probably best bet.
they can't be more than a few pence.
not sure what car you have, but you can choose from the first 4 to have switched (on ignition) live, or the second 4 for a permanent live.

Think they're all rated to 5A, so you should be ok.

Re: Looking for help regarding wiring

As 137699 says, the officlal ones from merc are cheap enough, though you need to remember to buy
                a spade connector as well.

The choice is more complicated because the 2 types are 'keyed' - that is to say there is a tiny piece of plastic
which prevents you putting an 'Ignition' fuse into a 'Permanent live' socket accidently (and vice versa).

Finally, whilst live fuse holders are coloured Orange, the ignition fuse holders can be ordered in several colours.

If you have every slot taken (I do) it is useful to tell at a glance which fuse is which.

P.S I would run ambient lighting from an ignition supply - you only need to forget to switch them off once
and your battery is drained. Which can be problematic for dry cell batteries
