  • Speaker Phasing question

    Hi guys-

Installed some new speakers today- Kenwood Dual-Mags (NOS). To cut a long story short- I'm not overly happy with the sound they produced so I've done a quick test with an "in phase, out of phase" mp3. Safe to say one of the speakers is out of phase- need to work out which one it is tomorrow.

I've gone down the route of using the standard speaker inputs for the new ones, ergo - soldering them to the terminals. Sadly none of the wires are marked- so it's horribly confusing. Sorry for the stupid question- but how do you use a multimeter to work out which speaker wire is positive and which is negative?

Resistance check from head unit output plugs to the speaker terminals you should be able to find which outputs are what from the headunit

Put it on Ω, select the beeper if it has one. Put 1 probe on one terminal and the other probe on a wire.
If it makes a noise then that's the cable.

Thanks guys- all sorted now. Ended up temporarily fitting some spade terminals and fiddling whilst playing with some speaker polarity test files through the head unit.

For reference http://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_polaritycheck.php has some great resources.
