The best would be between the floor and the seat rail if you can clean both surfaces to bright metal. It will probably work OK if you just put it under the bolt head if you can't manage the above. You can always redo it if it turns out that your AMP does not get enough power to work correctly.

battery -ve all the way............... that seat bolt seems very corroded.

the chassis is an earthing point because its connected to the battery - so why not bypass the soft steel chassis and use the decent cable?

It's one less joint in the battery compartment. Connections to the Battery are no better and no worse than good connections to the car's chassis.

If there was +'ve connection to a junction box that could take the power requirement, I would advocate using that instead of a direct connection to the battery.

Anyway, using the chassis as the ground helps with eliminating external noise and it reduces the extra weight of another cable. I know a single cable doesn't weight that much, but combined with all the other "stuff" people have in their cars, the weight saving helps fuel economy.

"But each to their own" It's not my car, so do it which ever way you want to. They should both work.

I agree with john, earth directly to the car, make sure you have clean metal, job done, leave battery for power only.

                          multimeter......

switch to 20v DC .......which is probably about the 1 o'clock position?? (but depends on type of meter but as this image)

the car should output 12v DC (ish)

the black connector on the multimeter is the earth so clip/poke onto a grounding point like a door hinge

touch the red connector onto anything you need to know is power (12v)

on the feeds from your car would be the red/blue (perm 12v) and the black/grey (12v switched)
