You probably want a 10 inch sub that can go in 0.5 cubic foot sealed box
Oh man so sorry but that's just confusing talk to me :-/ so look for a 10" sealed sub any of the following makes -Jl audio, focal, hertz, alpine, orion not sure what you mean on 1 power of amp 2 size of box ?

      Re: TV touch screen ?

I mean the sub needs to match those 2 features

Let's say you go for a sub by jl like this one

It works in boxes from 0.65cuft to about 1.2cuft, at 0.65 it will play tight bass with a good response and it will take quite a bit of power, if you used a bigger box generally it will play a little deeper on the bass notes. I have always had small cars except my golf so always gone for about 0.6cuft making boxes is very simple and allows you to match to your car.

I had the sub above a few years ago well it's pre-deceasor anyway and it was excellent.

Or you can look at the link below

This is a complete sub and box designed and made by JL, I have used this company many times and recommend them highly you can even call them and ask them everything you want and they will help.

How about this amp very good price also

2 channels for the front and the 3rd for the sub.

What I always do is grab a cardboard box and cut out in the size of the amp and box and use to see where in the car it will go and if it's right.

adrimo - an active sub is just an enlcosure with a dedicated amp attached to the enclosure.

think you are thinking of bass tubes or the slimline active ones.

James - if you going to get an amp anyway then you may not need an active sub BUT if you decide to add some rear speakers at some point then you will need another amp to power that. From what i have seen, active subs are not much more than passive.

@adrimo thanks for the break down I'm not gonna lie thou baffled comes to mind ! Well I'm looking at getting this

Even thou I like the look of the JL sub ! Just a thing I like to have all the same brand (OCD I think) lol

Good idea with making tem plates hopefully wanting to mount the amp behind the passagers seat, or underneath it not 100% sure yet but that's after iv worked out what I need to get etc ! Yeah I do like that amp so is it "best" to bridge for a sub or like this one getting a 3channel ok/better ?

@problemchild- yeah I think it just give me few more options with it all being separate that's all and don't think I will need to add any rear speakers even thou I watched a video on that the other day,but think good enough tweeters, mids and sub will be plenty !

Oh and thanks for showing me that pioneer double din---- 😠😖 I want I want I want now and the wife says.......... Dream on lol got some buttering up to do

            Re: TV touch screen ?

Watts is the measurement of Power. 250W RMS is 250W Root Mean Square, its fairly complex to explain but essentially it means that that it is the power at which the Sub will work at normally, the max Wattage is 800W this means that peak power it can reach is 800W however you should not buy an amp over the RMS value in order to avoid damaging the sub. So buying an Amp with an RMS value the same as the sub is the best way.

The Sub can get up to 800W pumped into it but it is likely to destroy itself if held at that power for any amount of time. There are a few measurements for power, nominal, PMPO, RMS and MAX. PMPO is Peak Music Power Output. RMS is Root Mean Square and Max is another way of saying PMPO. Ive never liked things that advertise the PMPO because they give a false sense of the true power sustainable by the piece of equipment. The only value you need be interested in is the RMS value. That reflects the amount of power in true terms.

There was a big thing back in the 90s where things were advertised with huge Power ratings that made people think they were buying something really powerful. I never liked this because the true RMS of those pieces of equipment was much much lower than the advertised power output. Different pieces of equipment deliver different RMS values even though they may have the same MAX or PMPO value. You willl never really use a piece of equipment at its max power and if you do then you are likely to need to buy a new one!

This is before you get to the type of amplification, not all amps are the same, they will use different types of Amplification. The best being class A and the normal being class B these classes are based upon the way in which the signal is amplified. However its almost impossible to find an amp with class A only, that has a lot of power. Most amps use a combination of class A and class B amplification some even use class C.... The Higher the class the better the quality generally. So A being the highest means it would have more definition to the sound. Sound quality depends on the circuitry design and the quality of the components used in the manufacturing of the amp. Its all a personal preference and some prefer some amps over others because they hear the best part of the sound that suits them however others will think differently. I would stick with a good branded Amp they may be more expensive but you pay for what you get.

@Cougar- many thanks for this added information this is mainly what I don't want to do is buy a load of equipment then be told the amp is not powerful enough so ya won't get the best out of the sub or it's way too powerful and then I could of got a lot better sub etc I do want to try get a all round equal system. Just that sound systems and watts rms and all the other bits are defo not my strong point !

Think I'll just write down all the whole system I'm thinking of getting and see if people can tell if it will be ok and work ! ?

James, there is no wrong system.

An all focal will be a great system, if you don't mind that sub then that's a good one just check the dimensions are ok with your boot, my smart is my second car so I never depend on the boot for carrying things.

I think it's better to put the amp behind the passenger seat rather than underneath the seat, it allows you to adjust easily after it's put in. And with that get a regular focal 4ch amp, will probably be around the same price.

Just to confuse you more that sub is in a ported box which means it has a vent(hole in your term) this means it can play deeper bass as the port allows the sub to move more air thus creating more powerful bass. This is a way of having a smaller box with more output. There are cons but nothing you need to worry about.

                I'm quite enjoying this thread, I don't post a lot but it's a topic I love

I'm hoping it will be good and why did ya say "if you don't mind that sub then that's a good one" what as in I like it look wise etc ?!

yeah I still haven't checked out the measurements yet but even no this is really just my back and forward to work car and the odd popping out on my own that makes the whole boot free to sub it up yeah I decided on fitting the amp behind the seat due to them reasons. And now confusing me more what's the "regular" focal amp ? And I'm not to worry about the sub having the hole in it then cos I can change it if needed only going for this one due to only "FOCAL" 10" sub I can find. Well I'm glad your loving the thread I'm getting less hair and grey hairs lol and I'm just amazed on random people like your self taking time to share knowledge. ;-)

I would say I would love to share some but I haven't got a clue in this department haha :-/

                  AGAIN THANKYOU ALL SO FAR.....

                    Re: TV touch screen ?

I mean I think the focal sub and box is bigger than the JL so if it's fine with you then great. I also meant hole in the sub box not the actual sub, it's fine and I'm sure u will be more than happy with it.

Regular sized amp not the compact amp u showed before, how about this one to finish of your focal set up

And then we need to talk about cabling and wires so set aside another £100 ish, you will need

2 sets RCA 2.5m-3m leads(front and rear) which send the sound to the amp
3m of power cable(usually red) 8 awg should be fine but I use 4awg which is twice as thick(personal choice)
1/2m earth cable same power but(usually black)
4m remote wire from head unit to amp tells amp when to turn on and off
                    1m sub speaker wire
                    10m speaker wire

Then cable ends and clips etc

Yeah I think ill defo have to measure it up tomorrow but I would say from the pictures the jl sub is smaller ! And I not that, no hole in the sub it's in the box I no 1thing lol

Yeah that compact one gone out the window as did a few reviews on it and it gets very very hot and sometimes even cuts off ! So I forgetting about that one now So regular one all the way now ;-)

Now that is freaky I just saw that amp on eBay thought it was a good one so that meets all requirements then ? Have to measure the space I have behind the seat too then ! And yeah didn't know the wires add up like that much just been looking at them too plus my mate said not worth spending good money on the equipment if you go and get rubbish leads now !!

Cool that's not too bad then ! HU and amp the most cost then ! Best get some OT in at work lol ! So annoying I just want it all now !!! Aaarrrrgggg.....

One other thing the website you mentioned is defo a good secure one trusted yeah ! Cheers for putting up with me lol

It's just an amp wiring kit.... Loads on eBay.

Depending on where your amp is going, there's no point buying a kit that has 5m of cable (where will it all go?)
