  • Panel swaps

Has the increased popularity of the smart led to a different type of smart owner these days?

The current total and utter stagnantion of the panel swap scene seems to point in this direction, in my opinion.

Owners used to having 'grey euro boxes' don't seem to have taken on board the concept of changing panels and refreshing your love affair with smarts in the process.

How can we bring the panel swap scene back to life?

i think the problem is that the people with the best colours like the aqua's and the numeric ect. want to keep hold of them and buy another set rather than part with them!, or is that just me?

I wanted to get some crazy panels but I can't find any anywhere, there's a few companies but they're quite expensive

Yes, but the whole point of swapping panels is to save on the xpense of buying another set!
If you want to return to your original colour, then swap back again ... if there was a large enough pool of interested swappers it wouldn't be a problem.
I've swapped 6 times since summer 2000, but my last swap was March/April last year.
I managed to swap more times when there were considerably less smarts on the road - hence my thoughts on the changing profile of smart owners these days.

Could it be partly that older panels wont fit newer cars?

No, older panels fit the many many older cars that are also out there.

                Different times, different faces.

The panel scene is dead - the ashes of a panel should be scattered across the lawns of Hambach!
