Im lost without my smartie!!

I bought my smartie (dinky-doo) from a private dealer last may. I use my car for work and have done over 20k in him. Last week I had a problem with the steering. I thought must be the tyres. I had the tyres checked out, they were ok. I rang smart who could not fit me in for a week, so in despair i took my poorly dinky-doo to a garage. They told me that my steering column was knackered. Smart can not get one in this country cos its LHD, and have had to order one from germany. My dinky is 4 years old. And i am without my car for up to four weeks. Is there anything i can do? Other than get the bus.

If you ordered the part from a smart or Merc/smart centre, there is no reason why you should have to wait up to 4 weeks for it. Parts that come from the factory are available to European and UK dealers within 2-3 days. DCUK were officially importing smart as LHD in 2000, so that should not be an issue.

You may have noticed some funny things that stick out from your bum,there called LEGS,move them back and forth,it's called walking!Seriously,I hope you get it sorted.4 weeks seems a bit long.Have you tried phoning a few MB dealers for an earlier delivery?All the best.g

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR GET WELL WISHES. APPARENTLY THE GUY AT SMART HAS ALREADY RANG ROUND OTHER MB DEALERS, AND NO JOY. IVE ONLY GOT LITTLE LEGS THEY WONT TAKE ME FAR!!! DINKY DOO IS STILL ON THE DRIVE. I CANT LOOK OUT OF THE WINDOW, IT KILLS ME MAN!!

Not really connected with the topic but I used to have a 1989 Cadillac Coupe De-Ville and could get parts from Michigan, USA in three days.
It took twelve days to get some body panels from a Smart dealer.
How come so slow?

HES FIXED!! IT TOOK 7 DAYS NOT 4 WEEKS MERCEDES MANCHESTER ARE OFFICIALLY THE WORST GARGAGE. THEY WOULDNT PROMISE ME ANYTHING. 4 WEEKS AGO I TOOK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE, WHICH WAS AT THE SMART GARAGE ON BLACKFRIARS RD. I GOT A LIFT YESTERDAY AND DROPPED DINKY OFF TO BE FIXED ( DRIVING WITH THE STEERING GONE COULD ONLY GO IN
STRAIGHT LINES!!!) GOT TO THE SMART GARAGE AND LOW AND BEHOLD THEY HAD RELOCATED! NOBODY TOLD
ME. I ASKED THE BLOKE FOR DIRECTIONS- HE SAID
"I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET THERE BUT ITS NEAR THE
MAN CITY STADIUM!!" 1 HOUR LATER STILL TRYING TO FIND THE PLACE HAVING TO DO U-TURNS WITH A KAPUT STEERING COLUMN. I FINALLY GOT TO THE GARAGE READY TO KILL SOMEONE. THE SERVICE WAS RUBBISH. THEY DONT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR THERE! ANYWAY HES BETTER NOW IT COS £80.00 FOR STEERING COLUMN AND £92.00 LABOUR. NOT BAD PRICE THOUGH THOUGHT MIGHT BE MORE. HAPPY NOW!!! AFTER SEVERAL G&TS LAST NIGHT
