I'm with Jeepster...why can't we have football everyday. (Unfortunately I don't have a TV - not enough football to justify the license fee)

I'm with Andy.

And nothing could be worse than Big Brother. Perhaps they could put that on instead of commercial breaks on the new 'Footie' channel.

How come football is our national game when the FA was started in the 1890's and cricket in 1783?And why do they call it the Beautiful game?Theres nothing beautiful about overpaid yobbos shouting and spitting at each other and taking a dive if anyone comes closer than 2 feet.I'd love to see some football players play a game of Rugby!!They would then know what pain and injuries are really about!!

I don't like Soccer... I don't like the violence it incites and the behaviour of some of the players is just not on.. but looking at it as a sport I spose it does promote a community spirit but that is sometimes ruined by some midless thugs. I'm gonna dread this Euro 2004 thingy.

Now, Rugby... that's a different matter. I'm a bit of a fan of Rugger.

And ban Testosterone as well, or create an antidote so all the machoaggro types are more laid back.

Maybe football's the national game because at school it's an easy hour for the "teacher" ? (or it was when I was at school)

Send a class of kids out onto a field with a ball, let the two class bully's choose their friends alternately, leaving the **** kid as goalie for penalty target practice? (**** insert as appropriate: fat/non-white/intelligent/disabled/gay/just different)

...meanwhile "teacher" is in his office marking geography papers or chatting up 6th form girls?

I enjoyed cricket at school and the lessons in the gymnasium, but when you're just sent out onto a field with a ball without a "teacher", what's the point?

Possibly, my hate for football and a large proportion of it's "followers" stems from school... in a similar way to my hate for "western" films - having been had to endure them with father and grandparents as a kid on a Sunday afternoon!

Psychologically scarred... moi?

OK, rant over... thinking about things though, I did get banned from playing football with the boys at junior school for being sat on the sidelines making daisy chains with Alastair Godfrey Had to play cricket with the girls... I still don't see how they thought that was punishment

as we all know everything will go to pot now the "footie" is on, neighbours grass will grow so high I will think I am in the jungle the only good thing about it is that 90% of men will not be wandering round the shops looking bored as they can baffle the female of the species with how important it is to watch "this game" suppose life has some consolations at least we can buy what we like and no-one will be any the wiser - you know the old saying girls "this old thing, no its not new, had it for ages"

Was stopped on Friday in Burton-u-Trent by one of those "can you spare a little time to answer some questions" people. The criteria for taking part was that...

a) I drank lager
b) I drank lager whilst watching football

Apparently she was having problems finding suitable peeps to take part!

Bet that shattered a few marketing exec's expectations!

D.
