It's not aimed at the traditional "smart" market though is it?

...in a similar way the roadster was more acceptable to be seen in with your mates than a city coupe?

    How's that for non-PC?

The point is that neither the Smart nor the Roadster are Mundanes.

Take away the Smart name from the ForFour & you're left with a Mundane, & if Smart decide to move to making Mundane cars their raison d'etre, the clever & innovative side, will suffer. Leave Mundane manufacturing to those who do it so well: GM, Ford, Peugeot, etc.

One example: like them or hate them, Citroen used to build clever innovative cars. This all but stopped when they were taken over by Peugeot who leaned on Citroen to ditch their ideosyncratic cars & build 'sensible" cars.

The result was Citroen built Mundanes in the image of "bad Peugeots." When Citroen were allowed to build "Citroens" again (Xsara, C2, C3) they were back to (relatively) clever innovative cars again.

Seen one today at the Motor show, they are not offensive but yet again they are not way different than the typical family car. I will go and test drive one someday so reserve my judgment on them, but sofar I am not hooked on them nor can I see myself owning one. I don’t think I like the way Smart are going with the forfour and the forall, Smart is all about different, small and economic cars and now they seem to getting bigger.
I have heard the forall described as an SUV, now that’s just plain American with a hint of George Bush.

Now that’s off my chest I’m looking forward to seeing the roadster at Huddersfield on Tuesday. :-)

            Come on chasps and chaspettes

It's not like the a producing a 5.2 litre 600+ bhp biturbo or anything.

There again no doubt that would have it's fans judging by the remap backers on here.

Compared to it's inherited kinship the A-Class I think the For Four (whatever the spelling lettering!) is more of an attractive proposition in terms of required size and economy, crikey even my wife thought they looked nice, a lot more attractive (purely in a styling sense) than the Colt that the car is based on, the mitsubishi seems to have adopted that blandness in style.

Tho' if mitsubishi put the colt cab concept into production, I myself would be very tempted to replace my volvo with that, at the show it looked like a really stocky strong car, if you saw it you'll know what I mean.

whoops my twopenneth has just run out.

I am waiting to see the forall so I can get our pack of hounds in the back.

As long as they don't made the back of it too high for them to jump into.

The reason I love Smarts is because of the unique and quirky design, the fact that the Fourtwo and to a lesser extent the Roadster are like nothing else on the road.

The excellent design and build quality are a bonus but I don't (personally) think thats why we buy them.

That in essence is why I think the Fourfour will miss out - because it just looks like any other "euroblob" (fiesta, corsa, punto, focus etc)

                  (thats my humble opinion anyway)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

d a really good luck also at the car show but not too impressed.
My Smart will have to go towards the end of the year as it’s just to small for what I need (will be missed!!) I would still like something a little different from the norm i.e. Ford, Vauxhall etc
I wouldn’t consider buying one of these its just a bit on the boring side for me (but that’s just my opinion)

Waiting to see what the new Sporty Colt looks like!!!

dont hold your hopes too high!

massive, i dont think that motor standards will let it be that high, unless you have shitzus or something similar!!
