Hi All,
I have been leaking oil on my roadie. I started off with just a few drips when the engine was at operating temp and looked like it was the sump was at fault along the seal. I took the oppertunity to take it off, clean it up and paint it. I fitted it back on the car using Well Seal but there was still a leak.
Over the last few days I have used over a litre of oil (I do 130 miles a day). I took the time today to fully clean the engine as there was a lot of oil everywhere so I could see where it was coming from.
I took the rear panels off and the mud guard around the drivers side rear wheel as this was where most of the oil was. I also removed the plastic belt guard in front of the crank shaft belt.
The engine still only leaks when it is at full temp but it is much worse now, from what I can see I think the oil is coming out of the seal from the crank shaft pully but cannot be sure as I cannot see the seal. All I can do is by process of elimination see that there is no oil above this point and is coming from behind this pully.
Has anyone else experianced this, my roadie is coming up to 100k on the clock.
Luckily I have a knowledgeable Smart specialist in the form of Pure Smart nearby and will be getting it to him ASAP.
