This is on from 23rd to 26th August 2012 and is in Belgium but I am not sure where exactly - i am sure it will be announced in due course. Anyway I was wondering if anyone wanted to make a week of it. Spend a few days in Normandy and then drive up to Belgium.

Thats spooky - I found out the dates and working out if I could persuade you to have the normandy trip later than usual for that reason.

Done some research - the german/belgian forums that cropped up on search had no specific venue.
Someone mentioned the rumour of Antwerp, another had heard it was a historic old town, and yet another the possibility of visiting Francrochamps.
The most southerly town in Belgium is a manageable 400km from Calais - a 4 hour drive, and Antwerp a very reasonable 125 miles.
If I was picking a venue, Verviers would tick lots of boxes. Very close to the dutch and german borders and Spa, a lovely historical town in its own right and geared up to accomodating F1 fans.
All idle speculation, but it serves to show Belgium is far more accessible than Riccione, albeit prehaps less glamorous...Comment

well i soke to miami last night and mentioned the idea of going to see him and then driving up france the day before smart times and staying in a f1 somewhere near dunkirk so not mega miles to drive on the day , have already got the time off work so next question is the crossblade meet gonna be at smart times as well ?Comment

I know its jokingly called the 'Annual Normandy Trip' but really!!
Seriously, as we'll be there for good this time next year it matters not a jot when people want to visit. We're pleased to see you all anyway. This will continue until either you all get fed up or someone grossly misbehaves. I'm not exactly sure what the form misbehaviour might take but I do know that we can have a lot of fun without anyone getting upset. As this year's visitors can tell we now have more varied accommodation- to add to the spare 2 doubles and a single inside we have the multifunctional appartment and the possible double-barrel as well as the huge campsite (which will have to be shared with some chickens, guinea fowl and maybe a pig- depending on Ian's sty-building proficiency and the availability of piglets!). The only restriction I can see is that the breakfast/dinner table has its limitations, although we have managed to seat 22 with a squeeze. Anyway, first dibbs gets the chosen sleeping quarters. Rick, if you want the barrel again get in there quickly.Comment

I'm going to sticky this thread as it will be good to attract as many people from the UK as possible. I hope you don't mind Ian but I've added the dates to the title as well. :smile:
Having recently participated in my first smarttimes (2011 in Riccione, Italy) I would defintely recommend this. We had about 20(ish) cars from the UK which was pretty good considering that only 100 Italians turned up!
Given that Beligium is not really that far, I would imagine that the events team are hopeful for a really good turnout from the UK. It is also fairly centrally located so our friends in France, Germany, Sweden, Austria and The Netherlands should be quite strongly represented as well.
The venue has not been confirmed and I imagine that it will be a while before it is. As you can imagine, the logisitcs of organising such an event are huge. We are lucky with the smart festival that MB World have enough space to park 1400 smarts but I can't imagine that there is a similar sized MB owned venue in Belgium. Also smarttimes is about smarts. There are no pesky Mercedes getting in the way.
So for anyone who is interested in going, keep the dates free! More information will be posted up during the course of the year.

oh well that looks like thats next years summer holiday sorted out , just need to look for somewhere to stay in belgium when we know which part smart times is being held in

No, James, that is absolutely fine (and not in a woman's "fine" way of saying it)
We are happy to host up to around 25 people with a mixture of camping and staying in the various habitable parts of the house.
In the light of the dates I suggest anyone who wants to meets at our place (Google St Georges de rouelley) on the previous weekend. I am trying to contact French owners but it is likely that they are doing there own thing ( I dont know)
Local ports to us at St Malo, Cherburg, Caen and Le Havre

Deffinatly will be going to Smartimes12.....would be good to make a longer holiday of it, but we have something 'different' in the pipeline as well....so as much as I'd like to, I don't think Normandy will be possible as well.....but you never know!!!
Much depends on the 'where' in Belgium, when they release the details.
Hopefully should get a large turn out of Brits as it's not so far to travel?:silvertriComment
