  • The Yorkshire miner run Sunday 30th December 2012

    Hello colleagues

Most of us know that between Christmas and the New Year life can get a little boring.
So for our last trip of 2012 we are off out on a Smartie run. Sir Geoff is working out a route from Birch Services(M60) to the National coal-mining museum in Wakefield. Now most of you will know if you have been on a run where Geoff is involved then we could end up taking a route that we would of never of consider taking!
The admission to the museum is free. Then afterwards off for some lunch. Geoff is doing a dummy rum on Sunday and casing the area for a ‘two for one’ type pub. http://www.ncm.org.uk/

    So details are:

Sunday 30th December leaving at 10.00am from Birch services M60 Northbound.
So its either staying in and watching Julie Andrews climb that bloody hill again or Chuck Heston going round on a chariot or a trip out to Yorkshire with good company and not forgetting our Smarties.

We will be coming off at Junction 22 M62, which is the one after Milnrow so anyone living that neck of the woods could pick up the tube say around 10.15am. The rest as Cilla would say is ‘ Surprise surprise chuck’

    Cheers

As i only live a couple of miles from the NCM. both me and my daughter should be able to get there.
there is a local 'two for one' at Horbury but i would reccommend the Silkwood Farm at Ossett.

always busy and exellent food and drink, their puddings have to be seen to be belived.

          Hi Kev

What time could you get there for. The other option is to drive straight to the mining museum. Our journey will take us around 2 hours with what Geoff has planned for us!

          Cheers

There's a chance I might make it over for the Yorkshire miner, I'd probably be best to meet at the J22 rendezvous on the m62 If we are coming, it's quite a run for me just to get to the start. I'll let you know of our attendance either way closer the day, is it still intended to be 10:15 at that location?

Re: The Yorkshire miner run Sunday 30th December 2012

Can I thank all of the smarties who braved the weather to meet up this morning either at Birch services, Junction 22 or the Mining museum.

Big thanks once again from me to Geoff for doing a lot of the preparation and a dummy run the weekend before. Regretfully I was the last man in the tube and was behind a 4X4 so lost the tube for 20 mins Geoff came back for me!

The Mining museum was very good and educational but the food after even better. Although we had the mains at the Little Bull the sweet menu was a little sparse. So our colleague from Huddersfield took us to a new Pub in Ossett near Wakefield called the Silkwood farm off Mothers way. My god what portions poor Geoff had to take half of his eclair home. Pity now we did not have the mains at Silkwood Farm the Carvery looked delicious. I would strongly recommend this pub to any smarties around the Yorkshire area. I know some smarties took some pictures of the deserts so hopefully they may end up on here.

Once again many thanks and can I take this opportunity to wish you all a very peaceful 2013 and look forward to arranging more trips out in 2013.
