Drive around the Wirral

Hey Everyone!

I am putting together a route for a drive around the Wirral for the 19th of October starting from the Chester Services on the M56. We would stop off at Parkgate for ice cream (weather permitting ) and New Brighton for lunch. Would anyone be interested in going along to that?

what time to meet. and where. its a long way for me to come. so it has to be worth it.

We would start from the Chester services on the M56 (here). I am doing a dry run this evening of the route to see how long it would be so I can work out a good start time for it. Once I have done the dry run, I will post the start time.

Possibly. It's the day after we break for half-term, so unless I decide to leave the country or have collapsed into a coma it's a possibility.

I did the dry run a couple of days ago and all seems OK. Therefore, the details for the run are as follows:

Start location: Chester Services on the M56 (here)
Start time: 11am (I will be there for around 10am)

Is this still on, what kind of turn out are you expecting, i could be up for this and will be bringing two cars.

how long is the route and is it motorway or non motorway ( my son hasnt passed his test yet)

Hello there!

Yes, the run is still on. From the response here, I am hoping for at least 4, maybe 5 different Smarts at the run (maybe more but if they are interested, I've not heard from them). The route is entirely non-motorway but will contain at least one section of busy dual carriageway (60 mph limit but we will only be on there for a mile or so). The only potential issue is that if you are coming from Rochdale, the quickest way to get to the Chester Service is via the M56. It is possible to get to the services via the A roads (find the A56 and then join the A5117 to M56 J14) so it is up to you on that front.

The rest is either country roads or town driving (as befitting the Smart ).

I am driving the route tonight to make sure everything will be OK. At most, it will be 40 miles-ish (I'll post exactly what it is later on tonight). Update: Its 32 miles roughly.

Just a final reminder that the drive around the Wirral is tomorrow, starting at 11am at the Chester Services, just off junction 14 of the M56. The weather is still touch and go for Parkgate but with any luck, we should be OK.
