1.3 petrol version is your best bet and value for money. Avoid the wiesel as you simply do not do enough miles epr year to make the extra spend pay.

Our (Huge bought in the US) rear facing 2nd stage car seat goes in the centre in the rear. The seats are all the way back and the Mamas & Papas Luna fits fine. A Maxi-Cosi Loola Up is a very compact stroller which is also forward facing and worth a look if you don't have one yet! (good deals at Boots if you have an advantage card too)

I get over 50mpg even on short runs from my CDi, Gav probably gets about 40mpg ish from his 1.3 (both softouch!) The costs of both petrol & diesel are about the same at the moment so compare the costs for yourself on your mileage!

(We want a buggy that faces us, and the compact one so kindly showed to us on this forum is front facing.)
With the bigger boot you will be able to get a 'Medium' sized buggy in.

But if you want a bigger buggy to go in, you can always fold half the rear bench and slide the buggy in that way And still have the baby seat comfitably in place. I've done that before, so no probs.
