    Re: How Much is reasonable

it's only a car! I mean it, any garage, and I truly mean any garage can change discs and pads. Some have even made a business out of doing brakes cos it only takes a muppet to change them! Take it to Merc and all they'll do is get the girl from reception to do it (it's that easy) and charge you £100 an hour while paying her minimum wage!

Get the hint - mind you - four discs, 2 pairs of pads and a couple of hours labour and it isn't looking too bad (you are getting pads too, aren't you?)

here's a smiley cos I think I may have been a bit OTT while passing on this public information message!

      what he said

      £100 for the discs >> http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Sm...ce/Brake-Discs

and pads probably another £20 front and £20 rear - you can search for them yourself

Assuming they have the tools, and the know-how

If you've never so much as changed a wheel before, doing brake discs without any idea what you're doing is a tad stupid don't you think?

I would heartily recommend Mastertech Assist (google for 'em) as a Manchester smart specialist who don't take the piss. They look after my roadster for me these days.

              maybe, maybe not

It was a suggestion , if he's got a modicum of knowledge and a spare 1/2 afternoon, then go for it.

He can at least go and get the parts beforehand and pay for them directly

I thought rear brakes on a forfour were a pig to do?

Can be without the right tools and not knowing what you are doing!

Just cos I managed discs & pads on my Panda 10 yrs ago doesn't mean I'd know what I was doing if I tried on my forfour tomorrow! (luckily we have a workshop & mechanics )

Price sounds ok to me though for all round (do pads too though!)

The price sounds resonable, but i will say this...

Go to every garage you can find, And ask for a quote on how much they would charge you in total...

That way, you know where you stand! Hehe...:goodlk:

Buy the parts and go to your local ATS or similar and have a chat. I'd imagine they'll fit them for about £40 cash
