  • smart of leeds, thanks for nawt!

im a bit cheesed off with one of the mechanics at smart of leeds, the dealer is fime carnt knock them for that.
i had a whuring noise comming from the l/h/r wheel and was unsure if it was tyre noise or a bearing. took it for a free health check last weekend and the damage was a noise wheel bearing and 2 tyre (rubber deteriorating). i ordered a rear hub and fit it today, road tested it and guess what the whuring noise is still there! swapped the wheels back to front on the l/h side and its now moved to the l/h/f.

So change tyre as well???? Sounds like he was right - what's the issue??

What was cheaper?? Tyre or hub assembly??

i didnt see the technician take it for a road test thats all. he pulled it in to the workshop did the health check and parked it up outside (i checked the mileage)
the hub assymbly cost me £68 and tyres give or take the same depending in which ones i get.

Think i'd have swapped the wheels right to left, tyre noise can be confusing,
and i'd have thought you working at a garage would have been able to pop on a ramp in lunch break and given wheel a spin,
I'm assuming this is a diff smart to one you made slightly shorter, then surely there would be warranty from dealer,

did spin the wheels up before i started work and couldnt hear anything, but i have shot myself in the foot many times with bearing noises.
i now have a forfour and i didnt make my fortwo shorter, i made it narrower at the front

Erm - don't change left to right as tyres are directional and have only 1 way of rotation and switching left to right reverses this direction of rotation and is dangerous

Front to back is ok - presuming your tyre widths are the same... Which they aren't on the standard BRAB
