  • Front tyres suggestions, please?

    Hi all!
New to the ForFour forum, as I've migrated from the ForTwo!
That's right: sold the coupe and got a 1.5 Dci forfour.

I will be after some new front tyres soon: any suggestions for an all-season tyre, about £40 online?
    Thanks!

What's on the backs? Seems sensible to match them all up.

there are quite a few available but i guess your price is going to limit you.....

try camskills or blackcircles on t'internet!!

just type in your tyre sizes and search...

Yes, I've done that...so far best choice seems to be some Uniroyal Rainsport 2 or toyo proxes whatever.
Thought people had some favourites around here.

i got a pair of federal tyres for £67 through my work. if you try a tyre fitter they might have them but maybe a bit more than what i payed for them.
and welcome to the forfour ownership. iv had mine a month and still love it, but not as much as my old fortwo, which was written off and possibly now been crushed

Well my question about the what's on the back wasn't answered. Although it's quite legal to have different makes on the front and rear the handling characteristics of the car will be better if all wheels have the same tyres.
More to the point New tyres should always be fitted to the rear of the car. As rear tyres may last three times as long as the fronts they should preferably be brought to the front to be used up before their six year life is up. Asking people for suggestions on tyres is not really helpful because we all drive differently and have different needs. I for example have Firestone TZ200 all round, they're quiet, they handle well are reasonably priced, suit my driving style and I'm more than happy. Others might complain that Toyo's let go in the wet when they are driving fast.
You can go on price, but don't buy budget unless you just potter around town. They are definitely not worth it.

              .
Hi, yes, the question about rear tyres: they are new already (that's how I got the car), but bizarrely, not the same (2 types of Goodyear). - so they can't be all the same from the start.

If I were you I'd try and budget to replace the lot. Set of Falkens say £45.97 each from blackcircles.com look okay to me. Have you checked the ages on the rear tyres. They could be older than you think. Rears take ages to wear down.

No need to replace what doesn't need replacing - that's just a waste of money any time.

                    Re: Front tyres suggestions, please?

In a lot of circumstances I'd agree with you, but not with tyres. That's your only contact with the road surface. Even your handbook states fit only tyres of the same make and type. It looks like you're going to end up driving with three different tread patterns. All tyres have different characteristics, tread compounds and move surface water differently. If you put them Uniroyal rainsports on and they handle wet better than those odd tyres at the back you have the potential of losing the back end.

Don't mix season types of tyres.

Damn, this is going to turn into some trouble for me... I already have 3 different tread patterns, and have no idea which season the 2 different rear goodyear's actually are!

there will be weather symbols on the tyres if all season (sun, rain and snow symbols) and winter (snow symbols) types not sure about the summer ones having the symbols, if you note down the name of the tyres an internet search should help you identify them
