  • forfour fuel economy!

325 miles and still 1/2 tank in my 1.1 Passion!, so according to my calculations that is 650 miles to one tank (possible more) who needs a CDI fortwo when you can have a 1.1 forfour !

I'd say possibly less, i'm sure you don't need reminding that all the blocks on the fuel gauge aren't the same size. Keep at it, and when you refill work it out then.

to be honest it was mostly motorway driving! sat between 55-75 mph and the last time i did it i got about 550 miles to one tank!
i did calculate when i got 550 mile on one tank that i could have done 700 miles on one tank, but my right foot felt a bit heavy that week!

You cant measure consumption using the gauge. It is only a very rough guide. The only way is to zero your trip counter, fill to top near as dam it. Use as much petrol as you dare without running out then fill up again. Note number of litres, convert to gallons and divide number of miles driven by gallons used. Then you will have your result. That is the only way to do it.

Better still, do it over two tank fills.
Use the same forecourt while you are doing this.

For those of you with an iPhone there is a really good app called road trip. If you fill it in on every fuel purchase it will keep tabs on costs, fuel prices, MPG etc.. You can also add any other expenses for servicing and parts to give a real good idea on cost of ownership.

I find it makes me more careful with my right foot too as I'm always trying to beat my previous MPG. Also have noticed a big drop in MPG due to the cold weather.

Give it a go, I think it's pretty good.

                    which was
#Fill it to the top .. 'til it's 'full up'
                    #Zero the tripmeter.
#Drive it and use the majority of the tank to ensure you reduce any filling errors to their max.
#Fill it again using the same filling station to the same 'full up' level and note down how much fuel you just put in it.
#Go and pay for it :p
#Note down the tripmeter reading and reset it again, ready for the next fillup.

Use the Two figures to calculate your latest MPG.

                        No you're not :wag:

From the looks of the first post, you're going off the gauge and doubling what you've got at half time and then assuming that's what you'll get in the second half, which it won't be

                          Re: forfour fuel economy!

i am resetting the trip every time i fill up and i know the fuel guage isnt acurate and the last time i got 50 miles short of 600 miles on one tank! well 48 miles short of 600 miles. iv currently got 2 bars (out of 8) with 420ish miles, so i think it may be possible to squeeze an extra 200-230 miles from a 1/4 tank

                            you're deluding yourself

On that basis and your thinking, you should be able to get 920miles out of it., not your original 650
you can think 'it may be possible' and trust the joke of a gauge all you want :p , but the ultimate and final figure is in the fillup

just cos it's digital does in no way mean it's accurate

                              47l tank = 10 imperial gallons = 60mpg

thats some good going vs the published 51mpg
