iPhone app I bet. You need some polarised filter on the windscreen to negate the ghost image.

also downloaded "HUD awesome" which is a bit funkier.....

the double image isn't so bad in reality and as you aren't actually focussing on the HUD but beyond it, it looks great (for free)

Doesn't seem accurate. Your top speed in that video was more than 11mph surely.

was only a little road - i was pootling (yes i know thats not like me) but it will only be as good as the gps on the iphone4

IMO it should sit lower down on the screen as I found it got a little tiresome 'sitting' that high up especially with the
ghosting effect - I presume the image is projected on the passenger's side and isn't directly in the drivers forward vision.

The main advantage to the image being lower is it can be projected onto a small piece of anti-reflective film, which would
be extremely distracting if it were placed where that image falls -the real trick is to get the HUD unit flush to the bottom edge of the window.

Finally as you have mentioned it is only as accurate/reliable as the gps on the smartphone and more importantly
the continuity of reception...

That's why I opted for a dedicated HUD speedo unit. My original GPS GlobalTop unit was fantastic but now has
a dodgy connection, and sadly they are discontinued.

I supeceded it with a relatively cheap and cheerful £50 unit which needs the GALA output signal (£40 for the SCN)
plus £5 and 2 hours work to modify a 2nd hand window vent to mount it.

Nowhere near as cheap as your option but it is less cluttered and more reliable and you don't have the potential
hazard of theft if by any chance you forget to collect the phone off the dashboard.

haha - i had it just below where a car would be 2secs down the road.

I found focussing on it in my eye line and then focussing it out was fine.

as with pilots - you look beyond the display and refocus on it for info which is better than a heads in or heads down movement.

the slight blur didn't bother me as i only needed to catch the figures for a very short period of time

(pic was taken on passenger side for safety then put back on drivers side)

i like the units coming up on the market nowadays..... we are doing a lot of things like this at work..... but how about this for an alternative that i am currently funding....
