Hi everyone, I bought a smart fortwo in december and love it so much! Its been such a great car. Im only 19 and two seats isnt always practicle. Will I regret converting to a forfour? Need opinions and views please!!
simple answer to your question mate... you will not!
i had an old L/H/D city coupe, and when that was written off i bought my forfour and i love it the same! i honestly carnt fault it!
get yourself over to www.forfour.co.uk for more info
you will not regret the move!
i fill my 1.1 with V-Power (i know i should fill with the normal stuff but i keep going to the good stuff) it takes about £65 to fill (cheaper with the normal stuff) and i manage to run it for about 420 miles and thats with my lead foot. in 13,400 miles iv averaged 42.4 MPG. the lowest iv got is 36 MPG and the highest 53.6 MPG (majority motorway driving at 60 mph)
obviously filling it will be more as its got a bigger fuel tank than the fortwo but compaired to my city coupe its doing roughly the same range and MPG, slightly more possibly
in the 2 years iv owned it i havent spen a penny on it other than maintinance, a pair of front discs and a set of tyres
The answer to your qustion can only be answered by yourself once you have done the change. Surely it depends on what it is you like about the fortwo. The forfour is not cheeky, cute or querky to look at as the fortwo. I have never driven one, but I would imagine the driving experience to be very different to its smaller cozen. I would definately have a test drive of one if I was you before committing to the change, then see if you feel the same way. Think to yourself what it was that drew you to a smart to start with and then think will the forfour still satisfy you, as it will be different for sure!!
the forfour is cheeky and querky, ill draw the line at cute but its practical in the way of being able to carry more people and more useable, more in some ways than the fortwo. i have the 1.1 engine in my forfour and i have the same fun as i had with my city coupe.
EVERY forfour has a querk, and i can prove it by one link http://www.forfour.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=97.0
what drew me to smarts was the fact that they are diffrent to every other car on the road, and the forfour is the same!
If you have an ounce of soul, yes....unless you buy the Brabus.
It's too normal, too underpowered for the size and weight and can be bettered by cheaper and more reliable alternatives.
The Mitsubishi Colt was a dog (apart from the moderately mild CZT) and the forfour is just a Colt with a different hat on.
The forfour is nothing like the fortwo. There are some slight nods towards the smart quirkiness, but they're few and far between. It's just a normal car with a smart badge on it. I really wish they'd not bothered. A smart was designed to carry two people and a case of beer, anything else is a travesty! Oh, and unless it's the Brabus - dull as **** to drive. If you want a practical car, buy one and admit the smart isn't for you.
A car's greatness isn't related to its reliability. Any Alfa driver will tell you that. The fortwo and the roadster has soul, the forfour doesn't. The forfour brabus is a good hot hatch but it's the same as other hot hatches, medium car/powerful engine.
The fortwo and roadster were exciting without a powerful engine.
You really can't compare the 2 - they are different.
I disagree with mrpoo though wholeheartedly..... The fortwo is quirky looking and different to other cars on the road - the forfour is also. There is nothing like it. It has many design cues that come from the smart pen and on top of that it has specs, versatility and unique features that other cars just do not have (panoramic glass roof for example)
There is a generic dislike of the forfour by smart people because it isn't pure smart but with the forfour you get excellent reliability, a good chassis, good power from a small revvy engine but with smart design (the interior is 100% recognisable as smart and when you look at the boring colt you can see where the smart effort has gone in)
The forfour is not a fortwo and never tried to be a bigger version, but it is a smart. Its great looking and there is a growing forfour community of owners who see the car for what it is.
If you don't want a £1000 engine rebuild constantly looming then it's a good choice.
But you could just as easily get a fiesta, micra, saxo, corsa and be the same as everyone else
No car is glitch free but some have less than others....
No car is cheap to run but some are cheaper than others....
