  • Irregular Idle

After spraying the engine bay with water, my forFour now struggles to idle. While driving all the power is available without delay, but when the engine gets below 2000rpm it suddenly falls and sometimes dies. After starting, the idle speed jumps between 500 and 1500 rpm. Already replaced the plugs with no effect.

Any ideas / suggestions? The engine light is on, but Mercedes wants me to book it in for a full diagnostic and refuses to tell me what the error code is.

They're not refusing to tell you, you can't identify the cause of the engine light without plugging it in. If I knew where 'A' was, I'd be able to point you in the direction of your nearest indie.

Throttle valve actuator - you need to clean it out with some carb cleaner...

      Takes about 30mins

      Quite common
