  • BRABUS forfour coilovers

Big thanks to Rob at s2smarts for trial fitting a set of Bilstein coilovers to the BRAB this week.

Initial ride back was excellent and a much more quality ride than the standard set up.

I've not gone lower on the ride height and not really planning to at the moment (at least until I've let them settle in)

I'll be feeding back to Rob on them as I am trailing them for Bilstein to expand their product range.

If anyone wants a set - contact s2smarts

      They aren't coil-overs.

MacPherson struts and a separated spring damper set-up are not coil-overs. Sloppy.

        Yawn

McPherson strut is a coil over damper set up

Bet yes - the rears are not coilovers. Thanks for pointing that out.

I will inform the "internet" that the coilovers kits advertised are misleading

Then 99% of cars have front coil-overs. Where's the news?

No problem. Thought you would have spotted that for yourself though.

                Re: BRABUS forfour coilovers

Nice car, looks like the same style offering as Bilstien do for the Fortwo, Is the damping adjustable on all four? One way adjustable? I'm supprised that they have only done a set for them now the car isn't even made anymore, but I suppose they may sell them for the Colt too.

                Cheers!

                  Re: BRABUS forfour coilovers

Damping and rebound is set but ride height is fully adjustable.

This is the thing - they haven't done a kit for the forfour but the CZt is so close in design that s2smarts, bilstein and I have agreed to trial fit the kit and feed back. The colt has a heavier front end due to the plastic panels of the smart so we will see how it all goes.

S2smarts is the main distributer for smart Bilstein products so if we can increase his product range it's all good.

Macpherson struts are not the same as coil-overs.

Macpherson struts = steering element involved.

Coil-overs = Just up & down movement, no lateral support. (eg. double wishbone)

BTW. Macpherson Struts used on the rear are called "Chapman Struts".

                    Just being pedantic!

Coilover - coil over damper..... It's a generic term and how the kits are sold.

Like dump valve, recirculating valve, blow off valve, compressor bypass valve, pressure relief valve, diverter valve or manifold vacuum-actuated valve

Again - apologies but I think most people know this type of kit as coilovers.

No matter what they're called, they look like a nice bit of kit.
When you say "a more quality ride", in which way?

& I think we're all here for the love of Smarts.

Ride is less rattly - more like its a vw set up.

Yes I know they are new but I don't remember the ride feeling this good

Reminds me of that advert, "Just like a Golf"...lol
It's always nice when you put new parts on, the car always feels better. It'll be good to hear what it feels like after it's settled in.

I swear mine goes better after i've washed it...lol.
