  • starting issue

    put a new battery in my smart 54 plate forfour cdi but it still seems to turn over slow and have no idea what might cause it,the battery has a cold start amp of 480,so has anyone exsprienced this problem or know what to do please

    duff starter? duff battery?
    even though you say its a new battery it could be faulty.

        Similar issue with ours. Check all of your earth contacts...

          Earth straps, especially the one between chassis and engine/ transmission perish due to corrosion eventually leading to no start at all unless you renew in time. Make sure engine has right grade of oil and that alternator is charging battery.

              hope you sort it soon.....

              the only issues we have heard of for this kind of symptom is the starter or alternator but could very well be the earth straps as they are quite poor as standard.

                To test the earth strap theory, just connect a jump lead from the battery negative terminal to the engine block & try starting the car.

                  good news my forfour cdi is now fixed,i found a second hand starter motor £50 at a scrapyard,same year as mine and works a treat now,and was easy to fit,about 30 minets in total

                    Looks like Mitsubishi designed for ease of maintenance. Not the norm these days though. Changing starter motor on a 450 certainly takes several hours, perhaps a day for the average DIY mechanic.
