Smart forfour cuts out when driving service light then dies

Hi I'm posting this for my mum as she needs her car but its parked up what problem is. When diving she says the car service light comes on then just after the radio cuts out and then all power fails you stop leave for short wile maybe 30 min and some times you can start it again but has failed again short after. Last time did this took to garage £200 bill nothing more info than we knew all the alternator battery and links they say look ok so we are still no further forward would any one know what this could be or have had the problem before I hope hanks in advance if you are reading this

hi - when you say the "service light" what do you mean??

sounds like its alternator and/or battery to me.

do you have a multi meter??

who did you pay £200 to for them to do nothing?

why not call the RAC and see if they will identify the problem at the road side?

i have been to car today dead as a dodo lol can not even use central locking i put a booster on from 12v cig lighter to the smart 12v cig input it comes up as 14v when i turn car egnition on it drops to 9v the lights come on abs and the triangle with exclimation mark if i turn it over it clicks i thought this was a starter maybe or battery but the garage says they have tested them and are fine thinking i will buy a battery ruel that out then its altinator or some thing els then as its my mums only form of getting about at this moment i would pay good money to get the dam thing resolved

local garage mum been dim just dropped it in dint set any limits and we was with aa and they sent local company to do recovery there code reader was faulty so they said can only tow you home that was it not impressed like

Hmmmmm - It sounds like alternator if the car just electrically failed whist driving.

Is there any smart specialists or merc independents up there?

Need it on a star machine really not a generic code reader.

Code readers are £30ish if you really need to try

Alternator should be DIY-able and I think we have a guide

and for the altenator how-to... that depends on if its a 3 pot petrol
