Gear lever on forfour

I have recently purchased a forfour that has a gear lever that is not as loose as I am used to (this may be normal). I intended getting a Haynes manual for this car, but it appears they don't have one. Has anyone experienced this problem or any experience on how easy it is to investigate? I am used to working on cars, looking for advice before I start digging deeper. Please advise.
