  • Your tyre setup.(pics)

Just been playing around with my tyre setup as the roads in the 'wilds of norfolk' are abit yucky at the moment.

    Was runing:

    Front 195/45/R16 Dunlop 9000
    Rear 215/35/R16 Dunlop 9000

    Now Running

    Front 175/55/R15 Bridgstone B340
    Rear 195/55/R15 Bridgstone B340

Wow! what a difference.... with the smart running 45kw turbo and dyno'd at 88.9PS I was very suprised at the lack of grip the 175's offer compared tot he 195's. The front of the smart has become abit on an animal:tongue:

I have also lost some acceleration:frown:

On the plus side the the ride has improved and its alot smoother at higher speeds.

Around town it is alot easier to drive and to park, major difference in the steering.

Overall i'm enjoying the test and will keep you updated.

they both look great though, its good to hear the report back so people know the difference from someone who has done it before

I am still waiting to get my newer alloys nut when I do I am going to eb staying with 15"s due to the smoother ride around towns and on longer jounreys. Only diffrence is going to be switching to 185's on the front and going from EcoConti's to Eagle F1s. Time will tell if it's going to improve things.

Am running 195/45 15 F and 195/50/15 R (Avon ZV3) on Kahns, never so much as had a hairy moment even in snow.

Very happy with Zero Nero tyres, 195/40/16 & 215/25/17 but need to up the sidewall to 45 section at the front so the ABS sensors are not confused, currently free wheels without any throttle.

Still got 7" steelies with 205/40/15 all round which is my favourite set up for grip & speed - Dunlop SP8000

Also run one with 195/45/16 & 205/40/16 which is good too on GY F1 Eagles

i'd recomend toyo proxes 195/50/15's on standard steelies. They work really well and give amazing rear end grip. With conties on the front it used to handle great! Most tyre shops refuse to fit them unless you sign a disclaimer- but they fit just fine and cost £40 each corner. nice.

Try rear steelies on the front with 185/45/15's - that was the best handeling setup that i ever had- they widened the front track stoping the motorway breeze swerve!

My rondell evo alloys had 195/50/15's unbrandeds on the front with toyo proxes 195/50/15 on the rear!

Toyo proxes are the way forwards.

hi, what tyre sizes do people recommend for a standard starline alloys?

i want equal or improved MPG and more stabilty at motorway speeds.

                  thanks all.

                    more stability = fatter tyres
                    better mpg = thinner tyres

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

yes in theory it does- but thats only after masive miles- i did 20k with my steelies- no damage- but thats just my experience. I wouldn't suggest running them if you can help it. If you have the cash alloys are the way forwards- or roadster lite steels- they have the same off set as standard rims.

Fiting wider wheels will knock your Mpg- i noticed i was doing my trip from leeds to exeter (292 miles) with 3 blobs of fuel to spare with the standard steels.

It went down with the toyos on the back- and down to 0 blob s and 4 ltrs in the tank with 195/50's on rear steel's all around.

Buuut... The consumption went back up to having 2 blobs with the alloys- so it does pay to have alloys... think i saved myself the £75 the alloys cost me in 5 trips! How great is that?!

                          Interesting read this.

I've got Kahn's with 175/195 combo and have been thinking of changing to Spiklines but was wondering about the ride.

                          How much harsher are 16's?

To be honest not alot. i would suggest running 40mm profiles over the 35mm rear profiles on the spiklines.

                            Handling is improved.

I picked up my fortwo last Monday and I've just checked the tyres - this set up any good ? Yokohama used a lot ?

                              Front A539(I think) Yokohama 175/50/R16
                              Rear A520 Yokohama 205/45/R16

not sure about mpg as I haven't had it long enough but never realised there would be a difference between steeel and alloys ! Shows how much I know !
