Compression test is fine and you are using oil - question you need to ask then - where is it going, and will additives / thicker oils resolve the issue?

that was my point. his engine isn't using excessive oil. only what it is meant to in the design specs.

Well it is really using more oil than it should, I've recently put a litre of mobil1 in over about 500 miles, which is over spec.

Just an update on this, it seems to be working, the oil is still going down, but at a considerably reduced rate, I have just had to top it up, but that's due to the fact it was only on about 1/4 when I added the wynns to the car.

Overall the engine is running smoother, and seems to have a bit more pep, I can't believe it'll do any harm adding this if your engine uses up oil at an over-spec rate, it should help prolong the life of the engine, just as if any 'high-mileage' oil was used in it. It's turbo-charger safe, so I'd say if you're concerned about your oil usage, it's only £4.99 so what have you got to lose?

(usual disclaimer about things blowing up, engines exploding etc applies).
