  • Alternator seized??????

    Hi

The car was a non runner when i bought it, i thought the engine was seized. When i turn the engine by the end of the crank its very stiff and the alternater isnt turning, the belt is jsut slipping over the pully. Is the alternator seized, is this a common problem?.

How easy is it to take the belt off?

    Thanks folks

    Re: Alternator seized??????

to get the car started you can cut the belt, then get a spanner on the alternator and turn it manually, liberally spray it with some sort of spray lubricant, and keep trying to turn it, it'll eventually free up, then keep spraying it with lube till it turn freely refit a belt, and run the engine for about 1/2 hour spraying it with lubricant and loads of rusty solvent will run out. (Thanks to Fudge at Cambridge Smart Cars for this tip!).

That didnt work, lots of spary and the bigest spanners, It wont shift. Took the belt off ok and the engine now turns. I have removed the two bolts holding the alternator in, but how do you go about removing it from the car, is there enough slack on the wires to disconect them when the alternator is half out?????

      thanks

My Tip Via Hoggie DOES Work, I personally have done 3.... and proessionally done loads.....

Cut the belt (it will be shot anyway)

Put Socket and Breaker Bar on the Pulley and buy loads of WD40 or equiv!

It takes time, but I've never known one not free!
