probably not - mostly local town and non- motorway. Not many motorways in scotland.

Looks like you are going to have to go and try the steering for yourself as clearly opinions are divided here. Come back once you have though, and the options can be discussed. Although wider tyres aren't to everyones taste, they do lighten the steering and improve other aspects such as overall grip and especially crosswind stability. Mine has the widest option at 195 (and if you find yourself anywhere in my vicinity you are welcome to try it), Pulse models come with an intermediate 175 size.
My point here is that it may be a route for you to gain acceptable steering weight if you find the standard set up too heavy on the 145s, without the complication and expense of power steering.

This is an interesting thread as we're looking for a fortwo with power steering but they're few & far between. Could someone advise which wheel designs come with the 175 front tyres as standard (I tried searching but to no avail)...

I believe Strikeline & Coreline come with 175's, but what other designs come with those tyres?

So we can hunt out a car fitted with the wider wheels/tyres & see if we can then live without PAS?

don't confuse the 175 with the 175's they use on the rears (when they are the socalled skinnie wheels fitted, the non brabus factory wideys usually have 175 on the fronts)

I've had 175s fitted to the skinny 4'' Jetline front wheels. Biggest problem is finding a tyre fitter who will mount them for you as they aren't keen to deviate from 'a book of recommendations'.
