In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

        Re: car wont start

Sorry if this goes on a bit but I have a similar problem my smart city cabrio 2002 won't start but only sometimes and if I just move the battery it comes back to life but it also seems to have an intermittent electrical problem where I will be driving and the dash lights will flicker it will lose all electrics and come straight back to life I am at my wits end with this and unfortunately I might have to sell my beloved smart if I can't figure it out .......help!

          Re: car wont start

IF you move the battery and it comes back then I'd hazard a guess that the leads are loose or kaputt

            Re: car wont start

Could well be loose battery leads, loose earth leads or even loose leads going in to the back of the SAM as it is in the right place to get kicked!

Could also be that the battery is in need of replacement.

Cheers all I am going to have a look today and I will check all the leads ........but I for got to mention that when it comes back to life it has a really "lumpy" power delivery for a short while and the gear Change is really harsh but only for a short while again sorry for rambling and I really appreciate the responses as I do not want to sell Smartina

                Re: car wont start

There could also be a problem with the SAM suffering from dry / fatigued joints where the cable connector blocks meet the circuit board.
This would involve taking out and opening it up and then re-soldering any dry joints.

                  Re: car wont start

When it is not starting, try to only add some extra earth cabling in the different possible problem areas, the battery earth, the engine earth etc, by a jump-starting cable, to find out if it helps.

Cheers all had a look this morning and all seemed ok but one terminal was a bit loose (not enought to cause a problem I would have thought) but just to be sure I took the battery out checked everything and re tightened the battery terminals do all is solid now.
Again thanks for all then replies it is very appreciated and fingers crossed it will be sorted I and Smartina thank you

                      Re: car wont start

I recently had not dissimilar problems with the Roadster which seems to have been cured by replacing both earth cables.

                          Re: car wont start

Replacement cables are only £25 or so from Smartmods. Worth just changing them first as could be a cheap fix.

over a week now and I have had no more problems thanks to all for advice who knew that only a slightly loose battery terminal would cause so much trouble wouldnt mind but it would have been the garage who left it loose oh well you live and learne
