  • 600cc tuning advice please!!

Hi folks !! I'm new to the smart world, I have a 2002 600cc pulse an was wondering if this engine reacts well to tuning? I cant really feel any boost at all an the time between gear changes is like waiting to win the lottery!! Can any 1 help!?

    Cheers:newbie:

Take a trip around the M25 to see Rob at S2Smarts....and get it remapped and a decent air filter (plus anything else he has that is within your budget).....it will make a great deal of difference to standard, and should help speed up the gear changes as well (but don't expect miricles with the gear change, it's never too fast!!)

from a remap & filter you should be looking at 75 - 80 bhp, and a good increase in torque making it more 'driveable'

loads of threads about tuning on here - and largely yes they're okay with it... it's likely to need a rebuild in life whether you tune it or not!!

A remap will be a quick fix to performance and gear issues (together with a proper clutch adjustment!)

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

If you have the budget, then air filter, de-lip&scoop, mocal hoses, oil cooler, bigger turbo and a free flow exhaust.

bigger turbo on a 600cc though will require a lot more work and I've been advised for the cost it's not a worth while thing to have done...a remap stage 2 will help more than anything, and mine sounds good with a stealth exhaust. More torque than bhp I find when compared to the bigger 700cc cousin, but still enough fun and acceleration when combined with all the mods Ferrina listed.

Thanks for the advise folks, very grateful!!  would the 600cc handle the bigger turbo or is it a case of engine internals?? Thanks once again!!

its not worth the cost, stick with the standard turbo and a remap.

When you see how tiny the conrods are, you'll think again about doing anything huge to these little engines. I'd probably get a K&N air filter element, de-lip the intake, get a scoop and a mild remap done.

I ran my 600 with a 'hybrid' turbo (slightly larger internals) for quite a while, until it cracked the manifold......has since been swapped back to a standard unit with very little effect on the performance.
It IS possible to get more power with a different turbo....but it will cost you LOADS....and probably have a thirst for super unleaded as well!!!
Before changing the engine on his own car Rob (S2Smarts) ran a VERY large turbo, from a Skyline, on his 600.....but he has the knowledge to set it up properly.....and I believe it used to do about 20mpg on a good day!!

Yeah.....who did the remap and convinced you that was a good map?

It's not a vast improvement over standard, I would have expected a bit more than that TBH!
