  • Confused with smart trim levels??

Ive been told the passion is the best model in a smart car but have now been told the pulse is just as good.
I bought a smart car the other day which i love and trim level doesnt really bother me im just curious.
I have a 2002 pulse which seems to have alot really, leather heated seats, panaramic roof and lovely 3 spoke alloys just curious what the differences between my pulse and the passion are?

    Thanks

Re: Confused with smart trim levels??

    The levels are generally
    Pure
This is the base model of the range, it has steel wheels, and the least power, it comes with a metal roof as standard. Usually comes with an AM/FM radio, and that's about it. Black tridion and solid colours as standard. All come with softip transmission (semi-automatic)

    Pulse
The pulse is the 'sporty' model of the range, usually comes with wider alloy wheels, and may have air-conditioning as an optional extra. Can have softouch as an optional extra, and may have a glass roof also as an optional extra. May have silver or black tridion. Usually have 55bhp.

    Passion
The passion is the top specification for the standard smarts, usually have 55bhp, they come with air-conditioning as standard, a glass panoramic roof, as well as alloy wheels, some early models come with fog lights as standard as well, and all come with silver tridion.

    Brabus
The brabus is based on a passion specification, but come with brabus bodykit, brabus interior parts (pedals, handbrake, and interior trim), and brabus mapped engine, usually have 74bhp or more, depending on which brabus model.

However most options can be fitted to other trim level models.
I reject your reality and substitute my own

        Slight correction here....
The Passion was considered the "Luxury" model, not the 'top end'.

Pulse glass roof was not an option - was standard.
        Engine power was 61bhp.
        Passion was 54 I think
Fogs on pulse were standard, option on passion.
a/c and auto were option on pulse, standard on pash.

and a few other bits and bobs.

I know the specs changed a few times during the lives of the car, but IMHO a well specced up pulse was better than a specced pash

Our pulse didn't have soft touch (not that that was any great loss) or aircon. Our passion has both of these plus silver trid, sound pack & tilt/slide sunroof.

We swapped the pulse wheels onto the passion as we preferred the starlines though they have since been replaced with Roadster spinlines.

Another slight correction. There are 61hp Pures. In 700cc guise at least. Should say on the V5.

^^ yes and passions when at 700, but not wanting to confuse the timeframes, they weren't available in 2002.

We have two pulses, my wife's is all black with soft touch and the glass panaromic roof, with heated leather seats, so it seems the person we bought it off hit the upgrades. The only down side is that she falls into the higher tax bracket. Where as my Silverpulse (limited edition, or something ??) has no soft touch, has the brabus wheels and is a cabrio, and this fall's into the lower tax bracket.

I'm still trying to find work out more about the trim levels, especially since mine confused the hell out of me

Yes, yours is a special edition (silverpulse and pulse aren't the same thing) so the standard trim rules don't apply. That said, what comes as standard isn't necessarily what you'll find on the car as there were so many options.

Re: Confused with smart trim levels??

My first smart was bought second hand and had

                    Silver tridion
                    glass roof
                    heated leather seats

                    and lots of other goodies

                    and was a pulse.

So why worry ... If it's new you get out the options list, if it's second hand someone has already done it for you

I think the only down side with buying my wife's is that even though it had all the optional extras, including the black tridion not silver, and with the wider wheels fitted, therefore falling into a higher tax bracket.

Brabus also made a red edition 450 with red tridon and panels but they are rare.
                        Cheers!

Well spootted there! It was a European standard Pulse with lots of options chosen by the previous owner.

I now have a standard Passion with foglights and pods ...
