Hi. Does anyone know a garage in the Norwich area that would be able to repair air-conditioning on a Smart Fortwo 450? Excluding Mercedes. Thank you.

Greetings, all depends on what's wrong?. All depends on whether they know how to access the air cond fill ports? If you know what the air cond pump looks like, you'll know there's a clutch on the front of it that pulls in and starts to spin, when you select air cond, the engine needs to be running. You may hear a 'click', as the clutch operates. If the clutch does not operate, there are two basic problems, no gas or no volts at the clutch. Greatest possibility being no gas. But if there's no volts, it could be, a dud pressure switch, a blown fuse, a broken wire or disconnected wire - somewhere? When you select the fan on, does it start and blow air? Then, press the air cond switch on the dash, does a light or two, appear in the switch? If, the fan blows and light/s, appear in the switch, the problem is not those items. Depends on whether you can work on the car yourself, a little? If you're able to do some work on a Smart, you need to gain access to the fill ports, you need to remove the grill and RHS fog light, if fitted. Once you've done that, take the car along to almost any automotive air cond person and ask them to do a 'leak test', if there's no apparent leak have them re-gas and also add some 'dye'. The dye will show where there's a slow leak, if there is one. (you'll need an ultraviolet light to see the dye, in the dark) If there is a leak of some kind, you'll need to know how to remove the front panels, it's not hard but at the point of removing the front panel assembly, you'll need another set of hands. Being able to gain access yourself, will save you quite a bit of dosh. Evil and FQ101 are good sites to have a look at. The air cond heat exchanger is in front of the radiator, so it is the one that gets damaged by stones, etc. As summer????? is fast approaching, (don't blink, you'll miss it) you'll find many 'hopefuls' will be wanting their aircond regased, so you'd best be in quick. Best time to have air cond looked at, believe it or not, is in the winter. Whoops, it's still winter for you guys, so you might be on a win??? Cheers.
