  • Have I bought a lemon.

Had my spare key programed today, cost £27.50 which I was happy with especially since MB quoted £160.
Know car has developed a rattle, it looks like the main exhaust bracket has broken, while underneath looking found an oil leak, that looks like it's coming from the bottom of the dipstick tube, so have ordered a new seal. I'm hoping that bad luck runs in three's, since I've just had the water pump done, perhaps my luck will change, still loving Smartie though
Is this typical of older Smart cars, or am I just unlucky.

Typical of old cars I think but with proper maintenance I have no doubt your Smart will become a blessing for you.

Thanks tolsen, I'm sure you are right.
I've been looking at some newer Smarties today, while waiting for my key to be programmed. A later one with similar mileage to mine would be about 5k but I don't think it would have the character of mine, or be a Brabus.

As Tolsen says. Secondhand cars are a compilation of other people's stored up problems. Once you sort the niggles and keep on top of routine stuff (eg door seals) you'll be fine.
Interested to hear how the leak at the dipstick resolves. Mine is sodden there too but I don't think that's the source of my leak - which is probably two. Cambox seal and gearbox. The joys....

I'm pretty sure that it the dipstick tube that's leaking at the bottom seal, ordered a new o ring, hope it's a cure.
The door seals are another problem, with the rain over the last few days I now have water getting in, never mind, I'll get there. 🤔
