  • Pioneer AVIC-F310BT - No TMC (Traffic) info

Hi guys, I have a 4 month old Smart ForTwo Passion Coupe CDi with the Pioneer AVIC-F310BT head unit.

I noticed that I wasn't getting any traffic data on the satnav so went into traffic and tried to select an RDS-TMC provider it says that none could be found or something along those lines....

Can anyone assist with this? Has anyone else managed to get it working?

What traffic data are you expecting? Just traffic announcements or should the satnav do some stuff with it?

It often happens and then comes back the next time you use it, never understood why, BTW I have it on my Astra TwinTop so it's a TMC data problem not your unit.

I've been trying to get the thing to give some traffic info for months, similarly to no avail!

My former crappy car cassette/radio would just pick up any local radio traffic bulletins & cut in, which was far more use than this never-found TMC thing. I wish this Pioneer would just do that.

RDS TMC (Traffic Message Channel) gives the satnav digital information on jams so it can re-route you around then. I don't know if the F310 comes with a map disc, but you need TMC enabled maps for it to work and a good Classic FM signal.

The 'interrupt your music to give you two minutes of waffle before the traffic report actually starts'* button is RDS TA (Travel Announcement) and/or EON (Extended Other Network) and is on the radio screen under "Function" (http://issuu.com/talkaudio/docs/pion...cf310bt_manual, page 80).

          * or, if you go down the M25, it's the 'change what ever I'm listening to to house music' button

I have a seperate TMC antenna for my Garmin which I have never got round to using - is there a remote possibility that this function needs a a seperate aerial?

(I'm a huge fan of Pioneer gear, but they are good at selling you 'compatible' equipment that requires you buy an adaptor unit, module, extra software, etc)

              Hi Guys,

I have a 9-month old passion cdi with the pioneer sat-nav unit. I took my car into mercedes benz swindon in february because the TMC service didn't work at all. I was told it had been fixed but it still didn't work. Mentioned the problem at the first service and was told again it has been fixed. It turns out all that had happened is that they'd reset the unit and it had worked when they tried it but not when i got the car home.

Mercedes benz swindon (MBS) have taken this up with pioneer for me and many phone calls later the problem is still rumbling on. They've seen the same problem with one of their own smart cars and a new head unit seems to have improved things, but it sounds like pioneer are playing silly beggars as a new head unit for my car is not forthcoming.

The people MBS use to fit these units say it may be a signal issue, although I commute 25 miles along the M4 each way every day and have no reception at any point of the journey (despite passing 2 transmitters that ITIS - the TMC provider for pioneer units say are active). Although MBS is very close to the swindon transmitter so if it is a signal issue then it must be that the smart radio aerial is ill-suited for TMC purposes.

I'll post again if the situation is sorted. Although judging by how long it took MBS to acknowledge they'd put the wrong oil in my car, that could take some time.

Do NOT let the dealer try and palm the problem off to pioneer , it's the dealers problem , they sold you the car , they have a duty to provide you with a new head unit if that's what it currently takes to make the feature work

I have a 7 month old cdi with the same issue it used to work ok, then not then did again for a while, i think it may be somthing to do with having clasic FM stored as one of the 6 presets on the set you are using i have preset 5 set to classic and it works from time to time, my audi s4 works all the time so there is signal where i live.

Can someone explain what I should be looking to see as we've got one but I've no idea it could do that!

How is storing Classic FM related to the Traffic signal for SatNav? Are they on a similar frequency or something? Maybe I'll try it.

You know how when you tune into a radio station, it gives you the station name? It's like that, except the data is traffic info and it's only transmitted on Classic FM. I wouldn't have thought you'd need to tune it into a preset - the satnav should be clever enough to find the signal all by itself.

It's on Classic FM because it's the only national FM radio station that isn't run by the BBC (and the BBC can't transmit the data and take payment for doing so).

Thanks for the info (can't rep you- it says I have to spread it around).

I had tried to find Classic fm like david suggested, couldn't hurt... and the thing can't even find that! I looked up on classic's site that it should be about 100-101FM, but it won't tune to it. I guess that helps to explain why it can't find the TMC, but it seems very odd since I live in the middle of a city!

                              Hi guys,

completely forgot about this post and have just found it again... I have an update (although not a fix)....

Reset my unit the other week after the screen wouldn't work.... the backlight has now changed colour (from Orange to Blue) and the radio no longer mutes for directions... have no idea how to fix either of these.

Anyway the unit now also finds a TMC and once or twice it did actually tell me about traffic on my route... however it then stopped working again and won't work anymore.

When I go into traffic I can choose the option and see the LIST of traffic incidents but when I choose the "Traffic on route" option it says "no data found" and it doesn't warn me of any traffic in map view again now either.

Very annoying - resetting the unit again didn't help except to lose my three bluetooth connections and associated contacts...

Even at the weekend on route from Stafford to Sheffield via (outskirts of) Derby and Nottingham it didn't pick anything up.
