Upgrading to SoftTouch

Hey guys,

I've bought an SE Drive with the auto button on it.

I'm wondering how much I'm expected to pay for a Tan code?

I've heard that the early SAM units might not accept an auto upgrade, is this correct?

I've only heard the 451 having problems with fog light coding, adding auto (which is terrible and not needed) shouldn't be a problem.
At a guess I would say £70 for the TAN.

your completely right ive had an awful job trying to get a cabrio to accept the soft-touch, everything mechanical/electrical goes in ok, enter the correct TAN (free ones or crappy ebay ones dont work) and it throws it rattle out of the pram and refuses to play ball :censor:

nikb, does your soft-tip still work with the soft-touch hardware installed?

Yes. I have softouch fitted (albeit not retrofitted, but retrofitting is aiming for the same thing!) and I just don't use it.

I know it does as standard, that's the idea of the switch.

With nikb retrofitting his I was wondering if, although he is having problems getting the SAM to allow auto, his soft-tip still functioning?

Right, I've fitted the SoftTouch hardware. Pleased to say the SoftTip semi
-auto still works.

I've been quoted £109 + vat for a TAN. The service guy at Merc also stated that because he hasn't supplied the hardware, if the TAN didn't work, I would still have to cover the price of the TAN.

What is it with all this software programming nonsense, anyone would think the Germans are trying to sneak the enigma back?!

Could anyone clarify the process needed when retrofitting items to a Smart 451?

I'm hearing TAN, SCN, STAR...
