  • Turbo Installment for 451 Non-Turbo

    Dear All,

I am driving a 08' 62 or 71 hp brabus exhaust and manofolt upgraded 451. As I am living in Turkey, I believe this is the Europe version. I am looking for a way to increase my engine power by installing a turbo. There is no experienced service here in Turkey apart from the Mercedes Service who I believe request some half of my car's current price. Therefore, I am looking for a way to install my turbo system (if it is possible) by myself. I use to play with my car but tihs will be my first touch to the engine.

First of all, I read some posts telling me that the ECU should be remaped after the turbo installation. Is this really necessary? If so, My first option is to find and install the factory turbo system which I believe is the safest way, so the Mercedes Service can easily replace the ECU with the turbo version. On the other hand, as I have the Brabus exhoust and the monifold, will I be able to use them with the new turbo system as it requires some space after all.

Please guide my with details so others like me can also understand the details and manage to decide if they can install and use properly the new system or not.

Many thanks to all who takes some time to guide us.

    Deniz.

tbh, I think it would be cheaper to sell your n/a and just buy a turbo 451.

      :agree::that:

If you can get hold of a Brabus or a 84bhp turbo car out there it would definatly be a better option.....even if it means a trip to somewhere else in Europe to purchase it!

they don't have the turbo version in the USA, but there is a company there making conversions (I believe for about $4000)....but the US version is also a different set up to the EU models due to emissions regs in the States, so it probably wouldn't be suitable for here!

      Good luck.

I don't know of anyone who's done it yet, but there was someone else looking into adding a turbo to his n/a passion and he was looking at big money for a custom system. He sold his car for something faster in the end.

I didn't think there was a 'fake' Brabus made for the continent, just the States.

          It's quite an undertaking...
If you look on Smart Car of America there are quite a few threads on the subject.

Agreed, cheaper, less hassle, better and more power.

              I say try it!

              I reckon you will need,

              - turbo
              - manifold
              - injectors
              - ecu

Best way would be to purchase all from an accident damaged 84 or brabus. Get the Sam and keys whilst your at it and you shouldn't have any trouble.

I want to get more power from my car, the simple "sell it and buy a turbo" won't cut it with me as I won my car and can't bear to part with it. I've spent a fair amount on it but I'm still around £4000 off the initial purchase price

and a new wiring loom and missing sensors. The turbo engine is balanced, non turbo engine isn't so you'll have to do something clever with the knock sensor or the ECU will be cutting all the time.

Instead of Turbo installment, should I try superchargers? Can that be more covinient and easy to install?

There are some both in the UK and US that provides superchargers under 3000 $ which I might afford if I can produce the same amount of power without damaging my car. For instance, the brabus with 98hp has the same clucth and transmissions as the 62hp? What are the strengthened parts for Brabus or the turbocharged version

There is a turbo kit in the states which takes your engine to 125bhp. There has been talk of superchargers by some tuners on here, but sure if available and tested yet. Rotrex do a kit for the Aygo which doubles the power, so it should be similar to do for another 1.0L engine. With the 71bhp engine, you will need to lower the compression ratio down to around 8.5:1 so avoid any detonation and you'll need to find space for an intercooler and of course the charger itself. As everyone has said, sell your car and buy a turbo version, then get it mapped to 120+ bhp.

                          Good luck!
