Is it possible to retrofit the micro hybrid drive technology into a turbo powered smart 451? Anyone know or tried this?

    Re: MHD Turbo

    1) why would you want to retro for a turbo to a non turbo smart?
    2) you can BUT its ONLY for US spec engines as they are diffrent.
    3) it will be cheaper to sell your smart and buy a turbo!

On a turbo engine you'd be starving the turbo bearings of oil with every shut off. Not a good idea.

no point, trade it in for a turbo like I ended up doing. you'll have much more fun too!

You don't understand. I have a turbo car. I want to add MHD to the turbo car because it doesn't even get the advertised fuel economy and I want to improve this.

Don't do it. You will cook the turbo. MHD & turbo's don't go together

Buy another car if you are after fuel economy

Does the MHD do anything apart from performing a stop/start function? Does it recoup braking energy?

No. Just stop start , the cheap option if you really must. Turn engine off and restart to go. But let it idle a while before you turn off to protect turbo

Even if it were possible, it wouldn't help your economy. Buy the (turbo) diesel and watch it double!

Please tell me you get 114 mpg out of your diesel, cos that is double of what I get in my Roady....

Maybe you should go read the diesel economy topics

That's nice, but we're talking about the 84bhp 451 here...... Average 35mpg from most reports on the forum, 65 average from ours (so not quite double if you're going to be pedantic)

What you may save in fuel you'd be spending on a new turbo. Just learn to drive it properly and considering getting cruise control fitted.
My turbo 451 is remapped to about 118bhp but when I do 55mph on faster roads with cruise control I can get 61mpg.

Evil, Is that 61mpg measured instantaneous or is it for the whole tank? I once got 51mpg on a tank from driving around 50-55mph while drafting trucks on the way back from Cornwall. What other mods do you have? Exhaust? My car has low miles <20k and has been maintained correctly. I also use the torque app to help with FE but it just isn't very good.
