  • smart with brabus daytime running lights (drl)

i love my running lights but want them to stay on when i put either my sidelights or headlights on they are far superior to boring 5w sidelights, better than foglights (although ive not ben out in any fog yet)

The flasing the headlight stalk with the key button thing doesnt work

they will need to dim if you have them on in the night.........

easiest is to wire them up to your sidelight feed as well..... maybe with a resistor??

please document if you do! i've been wanting to do this, but too scared to tinker with it, blow something and face an astronomical repair bill from the stealers!

there has to be a way to tell the SAM to keep them on, ive not plugged in the STAR yet to tinker, but it will only be a matter of time

why do you want the LED's on with your head lights?
they will look more of an after thought and look like the LED strips boy racers are sticking on there cars!

because they are unbeliveably bright and light up the road brilliantly

just like driving with fog lights then?
by law they have to dim if they are to stay on with the headlights, so it defeats the purpose!

His purpose is look at me look at me surely?

So in which case they work brilliantly!

, doesnt say anything about "look at me syndrome",
so im driving with daylights are on, people see me and my partner coming as they do attract other drivers attention, so if that means they see me coming and avoid a collision, or a pedestrian doesnt walk out in front of me then they are a great addition, now as its getting a little dark or it starts to rain or any other time id want traffic behind me i switch my sidelights on so people behind and in front of me can see us, but now i have only 2 small 5w bulbs which are **** so thats the reason.oh and they would be great as fog lights

yet again other thread that doesnt stick to the plan, without being rude and belive me im not being rude, does anyone know how to keep them on when my headlight are on, not am i being politically correct or i want to be looked at, or im concerned with legality or any other scenario , its a simple question, or do we have to dissect and add your own opinion, look guys thank you for constructive criticism, but i watch all 3 smart sites and all threads meander around not really sticking to the question posted

Erm but you want them on with headlights? or your sidelights, if it is daytime how do they help illuminate the road view for you? They don't

If it's dark enough to actually justify lights then your headlights are better not some dazzling LED DRLs

What lead me to my comments your initial comment about boring sidelights this is what lead me to the Look at Me comment

They would not be great as Fog Lights either they will produce to much vertical scatter.

DRLs are designed to make the vehicle be seen, they are of no use practically in dark conditions for the driver of said vehicle at full brightness. When you should have your headlamps on.

You may as well suggest driving around with full beam on all the time at night, you'd think that silly as it would dazzle other drivers. Exactly what DRL's will do on full intensity.

But you don't care what others think you just want someone else to give you a wiring diagram and instructions and little else.

                    It's a forum after all.

LEDs are too bright for use at night

what you need is to have them do what the audi ones do and that is dim on headlights on and dim when the indicators come on

i'm a "fog lights use the same bulb as headlights and point lower down so whats the issue" kind of person but the leds are shining directly ahead and you can see them from miles back on the motorway so in the dark, they will be blinding.

In my head i would say you need to also have a power source from the headlamp feed but make it with a resistance to dim them down a bit.

(in practice, that may not be possible)

Erm how hard is it to wire them up?

Wire them into the wiring for the side lights.

                          How simple could it be???

...but he also wants them on during day....

there will be a relay controlling the "turn off" when the lights are switched on

If control isn't inside the DRL LEDs

Input to LEDs from side lamp circuit blocked from daytime circuit via some blocking diodes.
